hey guys i really need some help, heres the story. I was riding around my house and it was running great(riding in the snow). So i put it away in the garage and everything was good. So about a week later i go out to stay it and i can not get this thing to fire! the starter is good and its turning over, just not firing. im baffled so i took the sparkplug wire off and hooked it to a defferent plug and its sparking on that plug. It also smells like gas, so can a bad plug make this thing not start at all? thanks for any help!

put in a brand new NGK spark plug only thing to use in honda 400ex then it should start be easy and dont give it to much gas until its warm or you may foul out the pug

Will a spark plug really foul from just sitting there with a little cranking? i got a br9es sitting at home right now, that be okay? ohh gotta pick up a fourstroke spark plug wrench first.

shouldent just when you crank it with the choke on dont give it much gas if and if it wont start push the free play out of the trottle and hold it there to star with out fouling

Pump the throttle twice so you get some gas in the carb after you change the plug but dont flood it

Same here. Rode it next day won't start. I've got a similar problem but I am not getting a spark. Pulled the plug wire off & put a screw driver in it near the engine & no spark. I smell gas when I try to start it. Went through with contact cleaner & cleaned all contections. I was not able to pull the plug out due to it being in such a tight space. Can anyone help on 1st how to get that darn plug out & could this likely be my issue???? I have only owned this bike for about a month & I am already having issues I can't resolve...frustrated!!!

youl need a 18 mm deep well 6 point socket and a 3or 4 inch extention if you cant get to it then youl have to take of the plastics gas tank and heat shied but the plug is probly your problem

Changed the spark plug & it still will not start. I am not getting spark/fire...What could be wrong with this thing? I smell gas & it attempts to crank/turnover just fine. Cleaned all contact surfaces & points with cleaner. Thanks for any advice & due to family health issues I may be slow to respond back. Thanks

If you aren't gettin spark you gotta work your way back, check all connections up to the coil, then have your coil checked...if you aren't gettin spark the coil could definitely have gone bad...if it tests good just keep checkin wires on the way back to your battery, you could have a break in connection somewhere
