They will do some good at high speed but very little if anything at low speed. It depends on the application; if you are running a hot motor and heat was an issue then every little bit helps. But for the stock ex it’s just the look. A forced air system would work better i.e. spall fan.

x2, my oil temps didn't go down at all. But i would imagine that if you did a larger cooler it would help a little.

WELCOME!!! Tell us about your quad, what all do you have done to it?

I am also an MX junkie... here is my ole girl. This is pre-rebuild though... :/ I'll get new ones sometime....

Do the SPAL fan mod if you are worried about it. That should nearly eliminate head fade.

Well... Actually, it was intended so that when i wreck and it falls on its side it the officials will be able to easily identify the idiot who just wrecked... lol

P.S.
They were sent to me like that... I've got the one to do it right, but my last name was spelled wrong... Its Gloe not Cloe......

Did you use spacers to widen it?? If so, i would suggest putting your money into some a-arms and an axle. It is totally different with those vs. spacers.

01boneless,

welcome to the forums,
There are alot of good folks here who are knowedgeable, experienced, and happy to help you learn about your new quad.

The 400EX is a solid machine, that can be modified to almost any style of riding you want to use it for, and the aftermarket parts available for it are endless.
Basically the only limiting factor is how much you are willing to spend on it.

One of the best ways to get the most "Bang for your Buck", is to learn as much as you can about your quad, and the "Do's, and Dont's", that come with some of the cheaper methods for modifying your new machine.

Many of the things that you will want to learn about, have been covered by some VERY Knowledgeable and Experienced members, who have taken great amounts of time, and effort, in writing and explaining why certain things work very well, while other things do not.

Here is a very long and detailed discussion about suspension and handeling, that is a very handy tool for learning some of those details that make a huge difference as to how well your machine handles, and can be modified to handle even better.

http://www.exriders.com/vbb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=300433

If you take the time to read it throughly, I think you will come away with some information and knowledge that you will find useful and valuable.

Again,
Welcome to the forums, and enjoy your quad.
You made a great choice with the 400EX.

400$

#1 Tip: Change shop!

If you are a little bit handy, it's a not so tough fix man!! You can also put a crf 450r 03-08 timing chain as a little upgrade(much more stronger).

And with 400$, you can put brand new timing components, a new cam and even HD Springs. Dude 400$ is wayyyyyyy too much!

01boneless,

Seriously, It's not that they are a little too high.
They are flat out ripping you off.

if you have ANYBODY who knows their way around a toolbox, ask them for some help. Tell them you'll pay them $100-150 labor, get the CRF chain that Sneaky mentioned, and you'll be saving yourself alot of cash.

Just because they ae the only shop around,... does that mean if they charged $200 each for tires, you would pay that ?

There are members from all over the country here. They can help and can usually suggest a reputable shop that you may not be aware of.
What city / town do you live in, or near?

Whatever you do,... Do not spend 400 bucks on a timing chain job !

thanks for the help bud itsa honda shop but 400 is with the parts and all about how many hours you think it would take?

sneaky11
03-01-2011, 10:12 AM
even with the parts!! You can get a crf timing chain, new tensioner, 2 new chain guides, side cover gasket, valves cover gasket for maybe 150$, and get the job done in under 1 hour for someone with some knowledges.

The 1st thing a becomer in the 400ex world need is the manual shop.

Got the .pdf version for you here:
400ex manual shop .pdf (http://www.4shared.com/file/amiyS4ge/Honda20400ex.html)

Just clic the big blue botton with '' télécharger maintenant'' on it, and wait until the download begin.
