asphalt front tires, scooter tires?

I see alot of scooter tires on like banshee rims on ebay and some forums, are scooter tires good for fronts for asphalt riding? what are some cheap DOT type tires for quads? I figured since I got a set of street rims may as well put on some street tires and have fun once in a while at the drag strip or some outlaws :D thanks for any insight guys!
