Oh thats just the Shearer pipe that came with my motor I bought. I wanna see how it runs before I try something different. I've been hearing good things about the CPI pipes on these Puma motors. I also have a PSI pipe that I wanna try. I at least wanna try the Sheaer and make the decision for myself. People say that it lacks a good bottomend. We shall see!! Thanks for the compliments its been along time commin and I still have a ton of polishing, chrome work and powder coating to do. This is just the intitial mock-up to make sure everything fits. I had to fight my carb to get it to fit. It still needs a little work to be done to my satisfaction, lol. Its gettin there though!!

Checkout the Roll Design Stabilizer thread on here. It talks all about stabilizers. Its a WER stabilizer mount. Its custom made for the Lobo chassis. I got it on E-bay.

That thing is pretty sick dude!! What kind of power (hp)does that puma put out? is it drag only? 431 seems HUGE!!

Higgy87TRX425
05-04-2011, 02:05 PM
Grande Huevos, Yeah it is a bit big, but when I bought my first TRX 250r I had started out with a PSI 425cc Genesis Motor so I was spoiled with alot of power from the start!!! Anything less or slower would be a let down for me! The power or Hp on these can be anywhere from 60 to 80 depending on the tune. I'm gonna set mine up for dune ridding. I'm sure I'll do a little drag racing, but mainly just freeridding. I'm gonna try and get as close to 80hp as I can without running it on Alcohol!! I'm having Pete at Hybrid Engineering set my motor up for me and I hear he can put up some pretty impressive hp numbers. So I'll keep the thread posted on my progress. I just sent all my parts off to be powdercoated, rechromed and polished. Its gonna be sick!!!

Higgy87TRX425
06-20-2011, 11:42 PM
Look at the countersink work on those bolts. I hated how the allen heads on the Nacs clamps stuck out so far so I had to do something about it. Now I think that I'm gonna have to polish up the clamp so it will look good against that fresh powdercoat!

That is looking good. Did you polish that Higgy?

Higgy87TRX425
06-21-2011, 04:44 PM
Oh yes Obywan! I have learned to use the force through your guidance within the abrasive field very carefully!! You like it?? I still have a few pieces to go. I bought some new polishing equipment. The main thing that I've been using is an orbital sander, electric and Phunmatic! The new air Orbital has been the best so far! I have a few more pieces and I'm good!! I have to admit I did send the cylinder out thought. Too much work for me and Cascade did it for $150.00. And they made quick work of it, I had it back the next day, LOL!

Here's some new parts that I've been collecting to finish up this build. Check out the TM Designs seat gromets! Those are the Poly ones that everyone has been talking about!! I liked them so much I had to buy to sets! One set for each build. I guess I should have bought 3 sets then Ha Ha. I don't wanna get 2 far ahead of myself. I'll just concentrate on finishing one at a time!! I'm getting pretty close to having everything in order to get this project up and going again!! I just need wheels and tires and a +6 chain for my new swinger thats on the way!! Thanks Higgy!

Thanks Guys, I really like this swingarm!! Its just too bad I got the swingarm pivot bearings stuck in the arm. There too tight and the metal insert that holds the bearing in place and dust boot won't come off either so its in the shop HOPEFULLY getting fixed right now!! I have new bearings on the way as well! So I'm gonna give it another shot! I'll make sure and clean up the ID where the bearing rides ALOT better so the sleave will actually roll in there this next time. LOL! Thanks Higgy!

Higgy87TRX425
09-20-2011, 07:12 PM
Well I got the swingarm back today and I picked the bearings up at Mcguire bearing. It took about 2 hours to install! Fighting me every step of the way!! LOl! I had to sand the bearing rases down a bunch and then I had to grind down the inserts that hold the bearing in place and keep the dustseals seated. It was a pain in the ***! Then the arm really didn't want to go up into the frame. I had to hold one end in place with the swingarm pivot bolt then I used the wooden end of a hammer to pound on pushing the other end up into place. Meanwhile the dust seals keep falling off and the rear shock keeps getting in the way! lol. So 2 hours later I'm able to drive the swingarm pivot bolt through the sleave and presto the swingarms in place!!!!!! So tomarrow I'm gonna press the rear sproket in place and see if I can get everything else on. That's the hardest part left to do! wish me luck. I've been fighting this bike every step of the way!!! Dam Hybrids! I don't think that I'm gonna try and stick another Big *** Puma into an MX frame again! Well I'll need a little rest first at least. I've got a drag bike I've been wanting to build, and I found a smokin deal on a 496 Sabertooth. A grand for the whole topend including the crank, piston, reeds, intake boot, and exhaust flange and gaskets all brand new!!!! Maybe I'll turn that JP or whatever the hell it is frame into a Drag bike??? It could be fun!!! I've already got the out of frame Shearer Pipe for that motor and a 50 Lectron carb!! Lets race! lol! Alright I'm done, time for a nap! Higgy out!!

Looks real good Higgy!!

You need to find a buddy with a digital camera to shoot some better pics for you for the calendar...

Higgy87TRX425
09-26-2011, 07:34 PM
Yeah Buddy its seend like we all have a lot in commin! I have 2 yr Associates degree in Machaine Tool technology @ Mt Mood comm. College. I also worked at Boeing for 2 summers as a intern and then I've held variuous careers within the industry. I need to brush up on my TiG welding skills, but I can read prints, do some programming and know my ay around a machine shop prettywell. I've been wanting to build a 496 Sabertooth Drag motor, that I can get complete with the crank for $1000. Thats the head, cylinder head, pistion rings, gaskets and orings for a $1000. So I plan on building it here soon I have the frame which needs some work, but I also have an OOF Shearer pipe, and a 50mm Lectron carb, Plus three bottomend cases. I left, and 2 rightside1

So after I have the LoPuma Project dialed in then I'm gonna build a reliable LRD bike with a 430+ PSI motor in it. Carbon fiber red weave tank cover, rear grabbar, Hood, exhaust silencer, master cylinder cover, rad shrouds and then maybe some custom one off designs like redweave shouch guards. So that will a really SICK
bike!!
The next addition to the stable I plan on it building a Sabertooth Drag bike with an Alumnium

I think it might go a little more like this. If you seem like a nice enough guy so I may let you sit on the bike, as long as ur super carefull and promise not to scratch it! The photo's on the other hand unless taken by me are gonna cost ya (per Photo) and they won't be chea! LOL I mean, come on, you're lookin at the Paicso or Davinci of 250r's here! Ok I think that I've inflated my ego enough for today! I was looking at new digital Cameras at costco today. It looks like I'll be spending around $300 for the one that I need? Its has to be able to take photots of bikes in motion! so I think that it needs a fast shutter speed and at least a 10x zoom! More Details would be appreciated if anyone can help me????? Thanks Higgy!

i have a cannon G12, the g10 was a great one too. ( i got my g12 at bestbuy for 499 i think around janurary) and its the ebst camera ive had its one step below a SLR and has a metal body

Cannon, and Nikon are generally the top with Sony hanging around the same ranks

the biggest thing is what do you want from the camera, are you gonna be carrying it in your pocket? carrying with you on rides?

still shots? zoom? HD video

i looked at the cams at 300$ on costcos website all should do the job just fine.

Higgy87TRX425
09-28-2011, 09:18 PM
Motofool250r, yeah that sounds about right. I know when you get up around the $500 mark you can buy one heck of a nice camera. I'd like to get one that will do a little bit of video as well. My old POS Panasonic had video and it was ok?
On a brighter note, I got the chain slider in the mail, picked up my sproket and got everything on the bike today. Its complete, besides switching out some regular hardware for some new chrome goodies. I put oil in the crankcase, gas in the tank and even kicked her over a few times!!! Oh yeah!! I ran outa time and my foot was hurting already so I'll get back at it this weekend!! With any luck I'll have her up and running this weekend, purring like a kitten!!! Thanks Higgy!!

so the 10,000$ question does it sing and idle like a pissed off jungle cat caged in a LOBO frame?

Higgy87TRX425
10-03-2011, 03:15 AM
That would be a definite NOOOOOOOOO! Well I woke up to a puddle of oil underneath the bike this morning comming from 2 places. I believe that the motor oil is either comming from the main seal, where the cases slide together and I think that the other oil is probably brake fluid, because I was bleeding the brakes yesterday along with the hydraulic clutch? I also didn't have any spark when I tried to kick the bike over!! DAMM talk about having some bad luck with this thing!!! lol!

I called Pete, to figured out that I had to set-up? So far I hooked up A proper ground wire to be used with the coil, and presto we have spark! I still was unable to get gas to flow into the carb, but we're getting closer to Hopefully, having it fired up this week!!!

I STILL HAVE TO FIGURE OUT WHERE MY OIL LEAK IS COMMIN FROM, BUT PETE AND I WILL GET IT WORKED OUT!

I just added a freshly chromed chain slider and my bike seems to be holding oil so there's only a few small details to finish up. I need to put on my nerfbars, tune the carb a litttle bit and then grab a handfull of it and hang on. It should be pretty FAST! Check it out.http://i979.photobucket.com/albums/ae274/543215196/06%20Yamaha%20YZF%20450R%20Special%20Edition/06YamahaYZF450R064.jpg
This is the latest pic, with more to come!

The shifter looks a little high, your boot will be scratching the polished ignition cover. Did you polish the allen bolts that bolt the IMS/Roll logo to the bumper? I really like the Lobo cuttout. Attention to detail takes alot of time.

Mr. Pumashine, nice to hear from ya, and I do believe that I did polish those allen bolts holding that Roll Logo on. The bumper is actually from a Suzuki Z400 I believe! A few washers and it fits! Thanks to the cross compatibility chart,Troybuilt. I had the bumper chromed and then added the blue plastic to the back, then put it all back together you're right that's the stuff that takes the most time!!! I've been kinda playing with that shifter height and just installed it up a little higher, we'll see how it works at that heigth, but ur propably right! I'm moving into a new place WITH A GARAGE!!! STOKED! So I'll have more time to work on my bikes at night, or when I'm not slaving for Uncle Sam, lol!

Brokenbones, I'd love to get out this winter, but it would have to be a dry day!! Good luck? I know that its only gonna look this good once so I've gotta cherish all this polished aluminum and chrome while I can!! This is because THIS BIKE WILL NOT BE A GARAGE QUEEN!! I plan on ridding her hard once she's broken in and properly tuned of coarse, lol! I've never been to Winchester Bay so thats my first stop, ur backyard Tony, so I'm gonna want you to come out and play sometime too!
Thanks Higgy

I Well I hadn't decided if I wanted to run nerfbars or not, but a set of them came up on sale on fleabay specially for the Lobo frames so I jumped. I think that they were made for the baja or desert chassis because they weren't made with the propeg mount they came with your standard mounting hardware. So with a saw, drill and about an hour of my time I had them all mounted up! Here's the link so that you can check them out. http://s979.photobucket.com/albums/ae274/543215196/LoPuma%20Project%2018/
I think that they look ok? However as soon as I had those chromed I found another set for a 400ex that I thought might mount up as well? They were true Roll Design IMS nerfbars insted of AC Racing and they had a better look to them. So I'll show you a photo of them in a minute here, and you can tell me what you thin I should do? I'm not sure yet.
Thanks Higgy!

Higgy87TRX425

Here's a photo of the 400ex nerfbars. I think all I would need to do to mount them would be to use a sleave to cover both the propeg mount and the nerfbars because they're the same size! So if I chromed the sleave that and the nerfbars I think that they would look sick!

I really like the look of this IMS Roll Design Nerfbars Better!!! However that would require them to be sleaved a couple holes drilled and then more chroming! I'm already into the AC Racing nerbars a pretty Penny and I'm sure that the Roll nerbars wouldn't be cheap to chrome either. They go with the whole Roll Design theme of the bike though, so I think that I may have to do it, lol! It just never ends. Right now, all I need is a Flag mount, ORV sticker and a pair of Moto MX pants and this baby is ready to ride after it gets tuned a little better for the dunes! Some imput would be great!! What should I do??? Help a brotha out???? This is definately the sickness eating at me and a bad case of it. ha ha! Its never ends, lol!!

Hate to cause you any trouble but I like the IMS Roll better! You could do a cross tube like Troy has for his nerfs. Either way its a sick build and you are the man as far as patience goes!! lol Kinda makes me look at my builds like they are thrown together. lol

Yeah I like the Roll Nerfs better too! So it looks like I'll be doing a little more work on this bad boy! Check out the airbox eliminator kit I had modified to fit. I had to lengthen the tabs with a Big Thanks to Lew JR. so that the 86 air boot wouldn't be so bunched up!

Here's what they look like side by side. Then of coarse after it was welded up I just had to polish it. Otherwise it just wouldn't look right inbetween that chromed subframe! Check it out!

We'll to be honest kinda slow. I'm puting everything else on the bike except for the motor. I'm gonna have Alran at LED build me a either a 350 or 370 Sphinx topend for it. The bottomend is freshly rebuilt and already has Yukon gears, Hinson clutch basket, and new bearings through out the motor! I have that Red annodized Duncan clutch cover, along with an annodized red Merrill waterpump cover. In need to buy a new mechanical seal this week, send some stuff off to the chromers. I'm gonna have to wait patiently for the rear rotor allen head bolts to come back from the chromer so I can put the rear end together. I'm only missing 4 %^&$ allen bolts. I also wanna get my brakes painted or powdercoated gold to tie in with the gold theme. I'm gonna run FastFlexx Bars insted which will give me another inch then I'll buy handle bar clmaps that are 2" tall insted on the stard 1". So I'll gain to 2" inches total that this bike really needs! Thats about it for me right now. I wanna get at least 2 bikes ready in the next couple of weeks. So I can go riddin here soon!
So let me know how you're bike is comming along besides the blown-up part? I don't know if I've seen a photo or not?
You can gimma call if wou wanna talk bikes, work on them or go ride them, lol! Keith @ (503) 752-4749.

I don't know if you made your decision about the nerfs or not, but AC Racing makes a full set of nerfs with heelgaurds for the R now no fabricating if you wanna spend the bucks on it. I know it doesn't fit with the Roll LOBO stuff but form an fit is very nice. I think it would make a good addition to your build. I have to say that it looks really fantastic. Best looking R I have ever seen. If I had the bucks I wouldnt change much at all. Where did you get the Blue Nacs seat cover and Grahics I was looking for that combo but i could only find the silver stuff. Did you have to call them or special order?

I moved out here 9 years ago after I graduated college to ride bmx. I have a kid so I'm stuck! Haha. My dad raced atc's when I was really young, but I actually never got into riding quads until I went to winchester bay. I'm in love with that place. I am Jason's and James's buddy Lance. I stopped by Lew's and saw your LRD bike today. I love that color man!

Higgy87TRX425

Lance: Thanks, I was kinda up in the air about the Gold, but I think that it will work out fine. Its at Lew's for a set of custom heel guards and he's lengthing my Handlebar stem by 3" so I can run those MX bars that match the gold and red color scheme! I've just been buying small parts so far for the Lrd project. I'm waiting a while to do the topend. I'm thinking about going with a 350PV or 370PV kit with Pipe and silencer combo. Keeping with the LRD theme I'll have Arlan do the topend I think!! It should be sweet when I finish it up!! Good to hear from, now I've got someone else to ride with. There's gonna be some good ridding commin up!
Thanks Higgy!

I'm already set with the nerf/heel guard situation. I'm running the Ac nerfbars right now and they do fit perfect. They were made to work with the Roll pegs so just had to cut the front bars off to set them up like propegs because the frame was built with the crossbar already installed.
As for the Nac's blue seat cover, it came on my 1987 Trx 250r when I first bought it. I called Nacs about it and other colors because I wanted a red cover for the Lrd bike and thats when I found out that they are only doing the Silver seat covers from now on!!
I also lucked out an bought a Yellow Nacs seat cover from a guy on here and had it restored. I used an 88/89 style seat pan, but I had them use the 86 style seat foam. I just think that the 88/89 seat foam is too tall. I'm not sure when, I'll use the yellow cover, but I bought the yellow graphics too! So if they quit making them I at least have a set. I'm thinking yellow Fullbores with that seat and graphics on a Laeger someday??? We'll see. I'd eventually like to own a Laeger and a Walsh 250r someday!! Only time and money will be the factors, ha ha! Thats the sickness talking! lol!
Thanks Higgy!

Higgy is there any way i can see a pic of your air filter setup all mounted on quad. Also the 400ex nerfs will mount right up to the ims pegs only issue being the tube sizes being the same up front. These are 2 issue i havet figured out yet for my roll.

Mony: I just left my garage and only make it out to work on my bike on the weekends. So I'll get some Pics as soon as I can, it won't be next weekend because I'm going to Seattle supercross!! As for the nerfbars I paid way too much for, but I bought Ac Racing Nerfbars that were suppose to be for my LOBO spacificially and they bolted right up to my Roll pegs, but I still had to cut the front crossbar section off because as I mentioned before my frame is the Mx style and already has the Cross bar welded to the frame. After that oit was all good though, so I had them chromed!!! Problem solved? BUT I also like the idea of the 400ex heel guards because there IMS Roll Designand they're cheap! So I bought a set of those too and I think that I'm just gonna sleave them in the front. I'll either bolt together each side, or weld an aluminum tube onto the existing nerfbar which would then allow me to just side the nerfbar on then put the bolts in. After I have it chromed of coarse, lol! So I'll get you the pics of my Air filter set up as soon as I can. I used an 86 air boot and then had an Airbox eliminator kit lengthened so that the boot wasn't bunched up? It will all be in the photos next time. Sorry I should have checked my emaiol this morning!
Thanks Higgy!

Mony: Yeah bro all you have to do is buy one of the airbox eliminator kits and then have the to tabs that mount to the frame lengthened about 2"! Then use the existing pieces that you cut off as a template to trace the lines where you need to cut off the new tabs at. Its was really simple. The hardest part was polishing up the aluninum when I was done. So like I said before I hope that this helped you. Check out a fresh photo of the "LoPuma Project"

Well, the first ride of the LoPuma Project didn't go so smoothly. I made it about 3 mins outta camp and she blew, up or at least it looks like a lean seize. All I was going to do was warm it up go for a quick 5min ride and then check my plug? It was running a little rich at the house so I wasn't to worried. I'm only about 300ft above sea level at home and there's dunes that at a couple hundred feet out there. Well I made it 3 mins into my test run I was headed back to ckeck the plug and there she blew, locked right up on me!
http://i979.photobucket.com/albums/ae274/543215196/Sandlake7-15-11016.jpg
I mean she'll still start-up, but will die as soon as she fires up. So I looked at the plug as soon as I got back to camp and it was pretty white. Not the Dark tan that I was getting in my driveway not more then a month or 2 ago when we started her and made sure she ran good???
I just don't know, I guess I should have checked the plug before I went on my 5min ride, but that was the whole idea quick ride, check the plug and go from there. I'm running 110 Sunco race gas with Klotz R50 oil at 40 to 1. I've never ran Klotz before, but thats what I've been reccommended to run, so I did. I might switch back to my Maxima that I always liked so much!!! Who knows my bad for not checking the plug sooner!!!
Sorrily yours Higgy!

The Banshee Dare I mention a Yamaha on this site ran great all day. That 4mil stroker from Twister ran awsome. More then enough power to stutter those huge whoops after a big weekend. Click it up into 4th gear and nail that throttle and she was all topend the frontend even kept comming up on me threw the whoops. She was hooking up awsome!! I love that motor!! BUT, I still love my "R"'s better!!!!
Thanks Higgy!

JackBrown1988, etccb:
Yeah guys this build has been fighting me every step of the way and I'm not one to give up lightly. So the topend went south due to either a Lien Sieze, wrong pilot jet, or some other random occurance??? Its my fault either way for my not having the air-fuel fix adjusted properly! See these Lectron Carbs are new to me and they're signifabtly different to anything that I've worked with before. So we'll get it fixed and she'll be a BEAST!!
