JE or wiseco will be your two go to pistons both are pretty good quality.

10:1 will get you running 89 octane or 91 octane with preferred being 91.

11:1 will get you 91 or 93 all the time.

12.5:1 needs 110 and hd studs.

are you planning to do any upgrades to it while it is apart? such as a cam and such?

about the best 89-91 octane setup i have ran is 10:1 wiseco with a stage 1 hotcam and a sparks 6 degree timing advance key. it was a great setup and can be trail ridden for hundreds of miles in a day with no problems. i currently run a stage 2 with a 3 degree and 450 carb in my 10:1 and am extremely happy with that as well.

it all depends on where you want the power to be. the stage 1 6 degree combo is a nice compromise for a fresh build imo to go along with the exhaust you have already.

IDK when i bought it the guy said it had a stage 2 hotcam but who knows.... I'll probably leave it alone either way. I dont want to dump money in the motor unless I have too. I'm gonna try and get the suspension setup how i want it before i make it go faster. I always run 93 in my stuff anyway so guess 11:1 will be good. I dont even know if its a 400cc or not. The way it runs leads me to believe all it has done to it is the pipe. But maybe getting it jetted right will make me think otherwise.

11:1 with the stage 2 would be fun also.

there are so many different setups you can run it is almost rediculous to think about. lol

Suspension before power!? Smart man!
You'll be surprised how much faster "you'll" be able to go that way. I went 416 11:1 with xr 400 head gasket, stage 2 cam and couldn't be happier! Rejetted and now run 91-93 octane with no problems.

Yeah the places that i ride The quad is faster than I am, if you know what i mean. however the suspension on the 400 is way better stock than my 300ex was , I would bottom it out on almost every jump i hit. but i think it would of been fine with some good shocks. That was really my only complaint the 300
now i need get good suspension on the 400 and i should be good. since I have enough power now. Well until i decide i need a 450r....
