Looking at an 05 that starts and runs when clutch is in but when you let it out it stalls the bike, supposedly a shop says that it's probably a broken piece from a disk that is jammed in somewhere that is causing it to kill. Dose this sound like a possablilty or could it be more serious like a distroyed trans? Thanks for any help!

A buddy of mine had this problem, I went to his house rocked his bike back and forth into first gear problme solved. The bike was in 5th gear when he parked it.Thats most likely not the problem, but I'd check the oviouse easy things, befor I split my case.

Very true but this bike is for sale so I want to hear any issues that might have been out there before I go look at it. Thanks

Did the current owner try to repair the problem? With the engine turned off can you shift through fhe gears? Does it sound like its going info each gear?

If i was looking at the quad, I'd plan on splitting the cases, but I'd also use that to negate the price. I just split the case on my son's. 99 400ex. It is really not that complicated. It also gives you a chance to inspect the other componets as well

The clutches could just be worn out... THe cable could be stretched, not adjusted right... Could be the clutch springs are bad... etc....

Apparently when its shut off it shifts through all the gears just fine, so I'll make the trip to check it out I guess its a good pry bar for the price:p

The clutch basket teeth could have grooves in them. Idk about a clutch disc thing. Never really hear of that happening.

U should try and shift it all the way through all the gears with the motor not running. If it goes in all the gears then I couldnt see it being anything other than clutch related. Which would be fairly easy to fix. Or at least easier the splitting the case.

All the suggestions so far sound good, bottom line, it’s a gamble so use that to get it for a good price.
It’s buyers market and there plenty of them for sale, use that to your advantage.
