What do I do to help hold the tank in place now?

You could run a 1/4-20 tap in it and just get different bolts.

A bottoming tap, a standard tap will hit the frame before it starts cutting the threads good, but this is about the easiest option. I have seen some people cut the tab, grind off the factory "nut" and weld a new one on, but thats pretty labor intensive if you ask me.

guess I'll have to ck into the tap thing. Not gonna weld anything - as you said to much work. Thanx

Ok a better way...........

I had a flash back - its call heli coil, you can get the stuff at the auto parts store.

The gas tank bolt is 6m stuff. You drill the hole, screw in the new treads, snap the cross peice off & use the same size screw that it originally used.

Always good to have with you.

We used this method in the fall when we had oil leaking from the valve cover on our motor. Used grease so any metal chips don't drop in your motor or are accounted for when you work.
