I pulled my valve cover of today cause I was told when I bought my 400ex that it had a Hotcam stage 2. I am just having trouble figuring out if its aftermarket or stock. Any help will be awsome

90% of the aftermarket cams will not have a decomp mechanism on them.

they all have a number on them that will tell you what kind it is also. all of the hotcams do have a number on them and will not have a decomp mech on it.

take a pic and post it on here.

Also another thing to consider is, if your quad still has the stock bore and compression,...

and the previous owner, had ANY level of common sense, and engine building experience,...

Then it is highly doubtful that your cam is a Stage 2.

BUT, with that being said, there's always the idiots who live among us :ermm:

when i bought it the kid said it had a 416 kit and stage 2 cam but I had to replace the cylinder or something last year and the guy doing the rebuild said it didnt have a 416 kit but he also lied and screwed me on other stuff to. Right now its one over stock on the piston

yea sounds like the guy u got the atv from was a real nice guy.

but i would just take a pic of it or look around the cam for any numbers. also most hotcams have the name stamped on the cam in a few differant spots. but from what i hear the older ones don't do that
