Just put a 440 kit in my trx, my jetting is at 172 and 42, with k&n and yosh slip on. It is timed corectly this i know, and the valves are new and set fine, and the clearence is set to where it should allow her to start but when i crank on it, it fires once and then dies, and then just cranks ... there is spark, ... and compression, im thinking it is a fuel problem but what should i do to start off with ? oh and the needle is one up from factory...

well i would go to a 180, 42 pilot, 2.5 turns out on the f/a and put the needle back on the 3rd notch and see how it does then.

otherwise check for leaks and get a new plug also.

what kind of gas is in it? 93 octane?

its 91 pump, i dont have access to high octane, but i was running my 416 with 91 and it was rich as shish, but ok, it seems like a crazy carb problem to me. i will give her a shot

you wont be ending up at a 172 most likely with a 440 in there thats for sure. maybe with a 450 carb you will but still doubtful at best.

i have only seen a couple 440s run mid 170s for jets.

try the f/a at 2.25 out with the 42 in there instead.

are you using the choke?

Ok the 42 and the 180 or 190? Kinda confused on your post there... so it won't be above 170? I pulled the plug and there's white burns on it so its not getting enough fuel?

180 would be my guess to start off with. Steve

MY 440 used a 200 main jet with a stock carb and a 42 pilot.

My 450r carb uses a 220 main and 50 pilot.

Always starts with no choke right away and runs down high modded 450s at the drag strip.

ok well this did nothing with the 180, and i decided to take it back down to the cylinder to check and see if anything is broke or wrong, and i noticed before i pulled the chain, it was out of time and i timed it right ? what would cause it to jump timing? the chain tension-er? at this point im going to take it into the dealer, i am sick of fighting it

Stretched chain, bad tensioner. You can check the tensioner yourself if you remove it and put a small screwdriver in there and it should spring back up-if not its shot.

yea, remove the tensioner and theres a screw cap over it. Remove the screw cap and put a small flathead screwdriver in there and turn the tensioner- should spring back-if not its bad.
