First mods I done to my quad were upgraded the brakeing, steel brake lines 450r galifer brake rotors , and yfz450 calipers. Then I did the 450r shocks, I am an agressive rider and i'm young soo I cranked them all the way up as stiff as they get.Now I can stop on a dime, and power slide with the best of em.Highly recomended just keep watching craigslist, the forums , and ebay you'll find a good deal.

Yeah. Im keeping an eye out everywhere lol. Sooner or later I'll find a deal hopefully lol. Im really wanting some fox floats but idk. I think I'll stick with the 450r's for now. Since I hear alot of good about them. Would I be able to add +1 a-arms with the 450r's? Cuz eventualy I would love to add those to my EX.

as long as the arms are standard travel they should fit. but would need to be revalved right? just so they can be set up for your suspension etc

450r is a stiffer shock, if you got wider arms it moves the shock mount sometimes depending on the arm maker-thus in effect softening the shock somewhat due to mount location.

Revalving is still the best tho.

so would I be able to run a set of 450r shocks with say Houser +1 a-arms or Lonestar +1 a-arms?

as long as they're std travel and not long travel.

I have a full set of stock shocks off of a 05 450r for $200 shipped. Give me your number and I will text you pics. They are low hour and work perfectly.

Houser or similar a-arms +1 are std travel UNLESS they specify long travel. Just cause they are +1, +2, +3 doesnt mean they are long travel-most dont have long travel either due to cost.

Just wanted to clarify.

To stir the pot a little bit...Just because an a-arm says it's long travel, doesn't mean you get any more WHEEL travel. It only means it uses a longer shock, and MAYBE uses a different leverage ratio. There is only so much usable wheel travel within the ball joint travel.

Good post.

Dustin is correct, the arm can only travel so much within the ball joints range-so despite it saying long travel you may not be getting nearly as much travel as you truly think.

Just because they were designed for XC, doesn't mean they can't be long travel.

In all honesty, I wish the term "long travel" and "standard travel" weren't ever used. If companies would just specify the length of shock the setup uses, it would cause much less confusion for people unfamiliar to suspension. The term long travel has more often than not, turned into a sales gimmick for most companies. I'm not saying it's not better, but I'm willing to bet that most people that buy a long travel setup, have no idea what "long travel" means or what makes it better, and buy it for "more travel".

I'm not singling anyone out, just making a general statement.

It would be nice to know exactly what range of length the shocks you need to use are. It does annoy me greatly b/c every maker has different specs, ideas and designs-no two are the same usually. So one makers arms might work well with a 20" shock, but anothers might say 22" or whatever.
