This idea just popped into my head. has anyone every tried it or made some their self? Plenty of these tree rats in my back yard. i Figured a .22 to the head there would be some meat left somewhere.

You can do it, but there isnt really much there to dry out. You can make shredded jerky however.

I resent that statement.

You’d have to kill quite a few just to make a pound of jerky. I think for regular meat 10 lbs fresh meat ends up to be about a pound after it’s dry. So it should be close to the same for squirrel. It’s great just rolled in flower and fried. It also is great in dumplings instead of chicken. I think I’m going to cull a few around here again. They’ll be getting in my garden so they have to go.

used too take the .22 in the woods every weekend when i was younger...skin em up and freeze till you have about 10 than just season them up and put in the oven with the door cracked let them sit till you see what you like!

I know right? But you just don’t know what you’re missing. If you limit yourself you’ll never experience anything new. That tree rat is cleaner and safer too eat then most if not all the meat you buy at the grocery store.

that would be a good idea but by time it finished in the dehydrator it would be like a scab. i hunt the heck out of them but i never eat them. too much work, not enough reward. kinda like chinese buffet crab legs.

Ive never had it as jerky but when i was a kid, dad used to cook it up in flower and fry it in a frying pan...was pretty good that way..

he also tried just cooking with like bacon once.that didtn turn out great

we also have some good recipes for goose meat that is fantastic if anyone wants it

ya i think i'll just take it's head off with a 22 first shot so it doen't feel anything. hooking one in the mouth and beating it with a bat is somewhat wrong lol

I popped one today but it got stuck about 100 feet up in the tree. Oh well maybe he’ll be like a scare crow and the others will see this is a dead zone and stay away.lol
