i have to replace the head gasket on my 05 and was needing to know if there is anything special you have to do to replace it..can u just take the old one out and put the new one in or are there other things involved that need to be done..

Just make sure both surfaces are clean before you install it.

you can change your compression ratio slightly by using different brands, the thinner the gasket the more the compression... if your looking for the same results then go OEM.

I always ran the CRF gasket. Its 2 layer where the TRX is a 3. I cant say that i ever noticed a performance difference but it might have showed on a dyno. Never know but i never had any trouble out of it.

he has an 05, you CANNOT use a CRF headgasket, the bore sizes are different. The replacement is pretty straight forward, just make sure you time it properly if you never done anything in the topend before. and make sure you screw your tensioner in before installing it.

Good catch i shoulda caught that myself but read his post too fast. He is right you cant run the CRF on the 04/05

Torque the head nuts to 40 ft lbs
Cam tower to 120 in lbs
Ck timing marks
Red locktite on the 2 cam allen bolts
And as stated shorten cam chain tensioner before install.
Be a good time to ck valve specs.
Add anti-freeze.

i wouldnt recommend red loctite on the cam bolts, blue if anything, they tend to strip on the allen head fairly easy and being bolts that need to be removed for maintenence i wouldnt red loctite them

I always use red loctite on those bolts. It's alot easier to replace those bolts when they become worn, rather than replacing half the motor when they fall out.

im just saying, blue loctite is more then enough to hold them in, red loctite is meant for more permanent applications. but whatever works
