Now to finish it off all I gotta do is sand it down, and carpet
it and it should look pretty dang good

ive built all my own box's. i currently run kicker subs and their by far the best subs ive ever heard. the new L7's are unreal! something i'll suggest is to use 3/4 inch partical board. its less flexable then plywood and gives a clearer sound. or at least thats what i think personally. either way, ya gotta have thumps to go with music. :devil

I think was just 1/2 inch regular wood. Its gotta deep
thump to it. I gotta JL 12w6 that I gotta get another one
and a dual 12in banpass box. Talkin bout hittin hard

me and this other guy at school can make some kick arse box's in woodshop. he made one for his 12" woofer that was ported i dont remember what size it was but it sounded bad :macho Wired's right too partical board has less flex to it and just an idea we're gonna try it some time soon here but build a box then rhino line the outside of it... now that should be sweet

big rider what size speakers are those?

I built my own ported box to hold 2 10"subs.

And yes the best material to use is 5/8" or 3/4" MDF (medium density fiberboard). Its super strong. With zero flex. The only bad part is its pretty heavy, but if your building a box the right way, MDF is the way to go.

Acually Michael those are 6" subs. And you wouldn't
believe where I got them. I got them out of an old big
screen TV. I figgered that they would be crap but honestly
you wouldnt believe the sound that they put out. I got
pics of it now, I just sanded and carpeted. I'll post them later.
Thanx lathers

I've built probably 25 or so over the past 12 years.
My best (most challenging) was a V-shaped box built for the bed of a ford ranger, had an opening thru the cab, held 4 - 15" subs. Also did a slanted box for my old Toyota x-cab, with 3 -12" JL Audio 12W6's, absolutely killed on SPL! Ran off an Orion 225 amp, 133 watts per sub at 1/2 ohm. It was all good until it was ripped from the cab by some thugs early one morning...

3/4" MDF all the way! Nothing else sounds nearly as good.
I also used top of the line wood screws (placing one every inch or so), and use poly-fill to stuff the boxes (cancels out negative waves that bounce around inside the enclosure), and you can never have too much silicone jammed in every corner... for a nice air-tight seal.:devil

AMEN to the silicone in every corner. Cant
ever have too much.

I just built a box for my F150ext. cab.

I wanted something kinda trick. So I took the whole seat out with the intentions of putting a box under the seat, and mounting the seat to the box. But I wanted a ported box for 2 10" subs, and the space under the seat just wasn't enough. ..

...So I ended up. Removing the seat and just making a seat out of the box. heh.. the box is ported so it really ThUmPs. It looks good too.

I have some pics of the construction phase I'll post tomarrow. No pics of it installed.. yet.

..
But building a sub enclosure is pretty easy if its just a sealed box.
If its a ported box it can get a bit tricky, because the volume has to be fairly exact.

Heres a decent doc. to start off with http://www.rockfordfosgate.com/scripts/rightnow.cfg/php.exe/enduser/std_adp.php?p_refno=991115-000024

Well said nakomis, just a sealed box is
cake but when it comes to a ported box,
ohm's are critical with alot of other things.
I myself havent ventured into that yet.

I just got my setup done last month and let me tell you, my truck has never felt so good. In my ext cab S10 I wanted some better SQ mostly. I have a Alpine MP3 player, and a custom sealed box that sits behind my driverseat and it has one 12'' L7 Kicker ( oh yea ) and a Fosgate amp mounted right on to the sub. Oh and Infinity components all round. This is all easily removed from the truck too =). ( well the sub and amp anyway.

I will agree. I have built lots of sub boxes, some bad some Awsome. My last two boxes are truck boxes for two 12'' JL Audio subs and they rock. You could here me coming from four blocks away!!!:D  I got bored of them and gave them to my little bro. I only have a single bandpass box now with a JL 12W6. I have built some ported boxes to, they are little more difficult but if you get you specs for the speakers and make the boxes have the right air amount they should be fine. Its not as easy as I make it sound but if you love systems like I did you will study it and work out the bugs....LATER

That center cut out, is for my amp, eventually my amp will sit in there with clear plastic so you can see in, and maybe a neon light.

I had two 12in Kickers in my Toyota truck for about 5 years and they hit so hard they hurt...I finally took them out because it was getting hard to drive slammed all the way up on the steering wheel....

This was taken while I took it out...
