I'm considering getting a stock bore high compression piston (11:1) and a stage two or Sparks X1 cam. I'd really like to go with a 416 or 426 kit, but money is tight. I was wondering if the high comp piston and cam would be worth it. Or, should I should just go ahead and wait it out until I can afford going bigger?

im wondering the same thing.
It does make a difference, but you gotta take into consideration that a bore will only run you about 100 bucks at the most, so why not?

I had GT thunder do the studs and bore too since it was already there. Cost me 175 iirc. Studs are 100 (50 for them and 50 installed) and boring is 75 bucks.
You dont have to do the studs, I just like having the added insurance.

I wouldn't put an over sized high comp piston in without doing the studs.

the crank is not made for it......it would hold but it wont make lot of power just a lil bit......i would do a 416,10.1,hot cam and it well run good....and make more power just saying....

11:1 426 with a stage II hotcam and GT thunder HD head studs and it will be whole new bike. My brothers 400 is as reliable as stock with this combo and it has a ton of power.

LOL some of the things people come up with...
anyway back to the topic at hand for B. I would say that if money is tight, wait and get the extra coin and do the 416 at the same time. the piston will be the same price or very close to similar anyway. you would have to pay to have it honed a bit anyway with the stocker. you cant just drop a new piston in there with new rings on an old cross hatch, they wont seal correctly.
although it is up to you, either one will be a great setup so it really a tough call.

I would get a 426 bore, IMHO. 11:1, Stage 2 Cam, P&P. That should have you holding with the stock 450's for the mean time.
