I have this posted in the powertrain section but not that many people have viewed it. I going to send the head off my trx450er to CT racing or Duncan to get a full port polish, 5 angle valve job, aggressive mx cam and +1 exhaust valves. I can't decide who to send it to, Ive heard good things about both companies. Out of these to motor builders who should I use ??

I dont think you can do wrong with either of them!!!! find out cost and time of return and send to the one that you feel the most comfortable talking to,,call both and talk to them and get a feel for how you can relate to them,,,

I phoned both of them yesterday. CT wants me to use the the stock titanium intake valves and stock springs and recommends me to replace the springs everytime I do motor work. Duncan wants me to use his hd springs and stainless +1 intake valves and +1 exhaust with stock compression and bore.

CT can do the head work for $1318 with a full pipe and jet kit and Duncan wants $1395 without pipe.

I thought +1 intake is only needed when running high compression or a big bore ??

I would tell them both, to suck my balls! Call Dave at HRE Racing.
He will do a better job, for much less.

I don't really want to send my head to a builder I don't know. I would fell way safer sending my stuff to someone that is well known.

Send your head to sparks or baldwin or dasa. probably the most reputable 450r buildlers.

Ruf Racing's right ! Go with Dave at HRE. He does great job porting 450r heads and his customer service is top notch. He can make really nice numbers and powerband when using valvetrain-friendly cam and equipment.
Mine is : +1exh. valves, stock springs, HRC 07 cam, HRE Porting, 13.5 JE Pro series piston (Dave recommends CP, I had my crank balanced, trued, polished by Crank Works - Dave uses them to do crank services) and I use that with 43mm Sredum carb... Man that thing rips.
He knows what he's doing and he can build you really nice engine for your needs. Mine has really smooth broad powerband.

out of those 2 they both do good engine work but for the head deffinitely CT.

DDASA is also good head work.

I'm seriously thinking about going with CT, Duncan is way to much money for just head work.

CT claims 55-56 hp with the head work and exhaust.

I used CT when I had a 2 stroke! Still to this day that baddest quad Ive ever rode!! Was a 330R but that was then and this is now Had a Duncan 470 kit and it was very close to the power I had in the 330R Both are great but Id go with Duncan only cause Ct took 6mths for me to get my engine back. Duncan took 2 weeks.

CT told me 4 week turn time around right now and I think Duncan told me 2 weeks.

Is the extra money worth going with Duncan ?

I have ran a Ct motor on my 05 for two years now and had good luck with it . I have rode motors built by max power and mxp and they dont come close to the ct motor . It pulls from bottom all to the top.

I phoned sparks and dasa today, and dasa is the cheapest about of the 4 motor builders I phoned.

I'm going to use a builder out of California just because shipping is cheaper to canada, ATP is way to far away and I've never heard of mxp or hre or racers edge.

I think its going to be CT or dasa, I also talked to Baldwin and he wanted way to much, something like $1700 for head work and full exhaust package.

I would go with CT. My 250R has a CT 330 kit, have been very happy with it and the service I have received from them. Have talked to Allen on the phone a few times, seems to know his stuff. My 700XX will be getting some work done by them once I am ready to tear into the motor. Alot depends on what you are looking for out of your motor. Sure, CT may not have the highest peak power, but it will be one of the most reliable motors you will own.

I'm not looking for a crazy amount of power, I want a good strong reliable motor for intermediate/pro motocross. I'm going to stay with the stock bore and stock compression ratio.

you can go up to 12.5:1 and still run pump and still be reliable.

In canada top quailty pump gas is only 91 octane, I'm just going to stay with stock compression for awhile when upgrade to 13:1 and run race gas if I really need to.
