400ex hood scoops

ok iv been wanting to buy a carbon finber or plastic hood scoop. who makes them for the 400 with maiger non race cut plastic ?

feather carbon makes one, maier makes a carbon one(might be a fake one with just the carbon look i am not sure) with plastic ones.

most 450 ones will also work along with ones that are made for the 250r.

they will all require cutting or at least drilling to get them on the 400 though. there are also some for the newer 400 fenders that will probably work.

so the feather carbon large hood scoop for the 250r will fit my magier plastic after i drill holes and cut off some plastic?

Im pretty sure Fourwerx is about the only one anymore. I have a quadtech on mine but If you look at there website most of if not all the hoods and CF parts are discontinued.

You have to buy one for a 250r BTW

This is almost identical to my quadtech but i can tell there is a little difference in the grill.

why not get one that is made for the 400 from feather. I just looked and them make one for the old gen style, the fronts on the maiers are just about the same as the stock front nose cone.

maiers site with some more on it. also check out the 250r fenders, there are flatter ones for the r.

Do you have the old style plastic with the bug eye headlights or with out?

If you have the bug eyes you can run a scooped hood unless you cut them off IIRC.

iirc- if i remember correctly.
I dont think i have ever seen a hood ran with the old style plastic.

Is this what your looking to do except without race cut

Back when 400's were in their prime you could buy carbon fiber hoods all over ebay, but once the 450's came out the hoods got harder to find. if you want a true carbon fiber one then your gonna probably have to buy one used. Here is my ond 400 with a quadtech CF hood on the stock cut plastic:

I went with the trx scooped hood from Maier for mine. the 50966 . It seemed to work pretty decent. I t by no means is a clean seamless fit, but it looks great to me. I only had some miner cutting to take off too.
i tried using a heat gun and molding it a bit but it didnt bend too much just slightly. And the hood i used comes down too far on the sides by the front fenders so and graphics you have will be covered on the top.

You can make anything fit as long as you have the right tools to change it but ya it should fit with some modifications.

The 450r ones are flatter and wider..i dont think they look good or match the contour of the 99-04 400ex's. they however will fit pretty good on the new generation 400's that use the two piece front fenders. i didnt notice that quadtech was for a 450. id try and find a used 400ex one.

It's all what you like. I threw a 450r hood on my 1st gen ex. But you have to be creative in order to get it to fit correctly. It took me some fiddling, but I managed to get it on and have it look clean. I like the QT hood. I'm looking for one for my 450 now too

^^ yeah thats the cleanest 450r hood on a 1st gen 400ex ive seen, i was just saying that its not gonna directly match the contour of the plastic. That fourwerx one looks good! if they are still in production id get one of those for your bike.

^^ Thanks man, I like the quad tech single scoop hods made by QT for the 400ex. But i couldnt find any for a decent price or I would have got one

If i find one along the way Ill probably put the hood from the ex on my 450, I've got a maier one now, but i like the QT ones better. The maier hood wouldnt look as clean on the EX i dont think
