Im thinkin about getting back into racing i havent rode in a few years now, i would really like to get a 250r but my question ? is there anyone still racing them and if soo how are they doing with all the 4 strokes? i raced a ltr450 4 awhile and i had a 250r but i never took the r to the track soo i was just wanting to see if they were still getting raced and how well they are doing?

What type of racing are you doing? MX, TT?

There are still a few of us out here racing. 250Rs are still competitive if you set them up correctly. Although tight, little tracks are much tougher.

The 250r certainly has the power to run with the newer 4-strokes after some motor work is done, although it will take a little more finesse with the clutch. If you're a budding racer, a 4-stroke might make it a little easier for you, they're a little more forgiving, but that doesn't mean a 250r can't get the job done.

Plus, it's much more about the rider, anyways. If you put Carmicheal, Stewart, or Reed on a 125cc, they'd STILL be competative in the 250 class, so I don't think your machine is the thing that will make or break your racing career.

well I didnt do as well as I'd like, but that was the rider. the 250r did pretty good on the starts, both motos I was kinda lame coming out the gate but the R powered on down the straight and i wound up in 3rd after the first turn both motos...

i actually had a really nasty crash but the safety gear did its job. only bruises on my shoulder, forearm, thumb, ankle, and shin

with propper clutch work and knowing where your engine makes its power. your engine is more than capable than keeping with the 4 strokes. I personally think people took a liking to the new 4 strokes because of how "easy" they are to ride. however the 2 strokes are nice because you really have to pay attention to what your doing, this will make your competitive senses hightened.... ok enough with the BS. your only as competitive as you make yourself. the 250r can be plenty competitive with any bike you put it against with the right rider.

Just so you'll know 400ex18, in AMA/ATVA Extreme Dirt Track national racing, we have opened up classes to include 2 strokes & the cc limit not 265cc anymore, has been raised up to 306cc so you can bolt on a 310 cylinder & be legal.

Check out our site.

We also are including for 2011 season, two classes of SxS. A TT version SxS class & then a stock knobby SxS.

This past season, EDT racing grew where other types of racing declined.

Talk is, got quite a few ATV MX stars going to be running with us & the return of a few old TT pros.
