Why are all of the Ohlins shocks I've seen single rate? Do they have double and triple rate. How good are they?

They are not single rate. They are what is called "progressively wound". Each coil is wound tighter then the one before it.

That's correct Ohlins are progessively wound. They also offer a dual rate that works like a ZPS. I have Ohlins all the way around my my R and love them. They work great.

I dont rememer where, but can't you use the front Ohlins shocks from a Cannondale? What about the rear? This might be something to look into!

Yes the cannondale ohlins will work on a 400ex. I just bought a pair off a speed. They can be upgraded to dual rate, rezzies, zps. I don't think the rear will work because the 400ex has a rear linkage suspension and the cannondale dosent
