do i need to do any mods to be able to run a CRF timing chain.
also what year bike should i buy it for?

I know a 2002 fits no issues, thats what I ordered.

No mods needed at all either.

Thanks for the info as I'm in the middle of a complete rebuild and the timing chain is on the list.

Make sure you guys check the auto tensioner over to make sure its springy and check the guides for wear. You suspect anything is bad replace it.

On my 99 its the original... so yes its getting replaced

ive been through several tensionors, and i bought oem honda one and a week later the spring had broke and was makin a terrible ticking noise.......replaced it with another and ive had no issues........am kinda curious wat the numbers r all about, theres a single digit number on the tensionor, wats that all bout?

Im my experience what caused the tensioner to fail on my friends 400 was the timing chain was stretched.

We put on another one before swapping the chain (brand new) and it failed too after like 3 rides. Put on a whole new chain, guides and tensioner he got used and no issues.

What I think causes it to fail is it pushes to hard against a stretched chain and breaks. Comparing the worn to the new chain we could clearly see the old one was just slightly longer.
