cdi-rev box

I have an 02 400ex that I got on a trade freshened it up and it wont fire ive been threw the wiring harness numerous times everything is right there. But i did find out that the previous owner sold the cdi off of it and replaced it with a know good 08 ex cdi! he told me it was always hard to start without a 100amp charger hum! i have a new dyna that came with it that he said never worked! So my question is are the new ex cdi different??
i dont know anyone else w a older 400 to check or do i go back to the drawing board? ive replaced stator,pu,coil installe a new batt all to no luck. I can use my power probe and fire the coil so i know they are good any help would be great.

Yep, 00-04 iirc is same box, 05 and up changed something. i bought one off the net and it didnt work. switched back to my stocker works fine, put on a newer ex and fired right up.

the new ones have stuff for reverse in them also and cause issues on the old ones that dont have reverse. steve

wow so i guess i ve been pulling my hair out for this that is awsome to hear! so since its an 02 model what is the best- cheapest way out as i want to sell it .hard to sell a 500cc modded wheeler if it wont run!! still might part it out but i wont sell something until i know it is running properly!! thanks so much guys

check ebay for an older cdi or maybe the classifieds here.

It was hard to start without a 100amp charger with the cdi he sold or with the new 08 one?

The box that he had on it before that he sold be fore i got it !
he put a 08 on it when i got it but it was in pieces it needed rings so i put gt thunder headstuds honed it had the piston coated added a new crf cam chain put it together and no fire and now that is where im at so now i gotta get the correct cdi and see how it starts.i did ride it right after he first bulit the 500cc and it was a tq monster fun to ride if i didnt allready have 4 others id keep it but i need money to pay taxes! thanks for the help.
