06 OEM Rear Shock

Is it true that the shaft of the 06 and up 400 ex rear shock is approx. 3/8" longer than previous years and will bolt up on all other ex's? ANy thoughts on better performance if this is true?

the shock linkage is different. thats all i can be sure of.

The links only look different. The mounts are in the same location. I think the shocks are the same for all years also.
