first off, I have an 04 400ex and an 09 yz450. I am going to be selling the 400 for 2000 soon. I am going to buy something with the money from the quad. I am either going to buy a yfz450, trx450, banshee or a cr 500. Now,i can also sell my bike and have money from that too to buy another bike such as an 07 250 2 stroke. Or I could just keep my bike now and get a quad with the quad money. I will have about 2600 to spend on a quad. Just not sure what to do lol. Also by selling the 400 for 2000 I'm makin about 600 bucks

I were you, I would be happiest with a 450r and the 250 2 stroke.

What type of riding you do is a HUGE factor.

I personally would go for the banshee. It's all personal opinion. I've learned to get over their flaws and I love mine. I've ridden a bunch of new 450's. Amazing quads, for sure. But they just can't seem to replace that excitement I get from riding my banshee.

99% of the people in this thread will disagree with me, but oh well. I'll keep my old school twin cylinder 2-smoke:p

BUT.. if you do a lot of tight woods riding, and technical stuff, there's no doubt the 450 is the better choice.

All trail riding, may race a harescramble or two

Well, even coming from a banshee rider, the 450 would be the best bet. (If it's slower trails)

But, if you like 2-strokes, they CAN be set up to be awesome trail machines. I was thinking of possibly running mine in the D6 this season. I have Works shocks set up for my weight and XC style riding, floats through the woods.

Get a 450 quad and a 250 2 stroke bike, IMO. That's what I would do.... well what I'm doing gradually haha.

Yea, my friend has a '94 banshee I will ocassionally ride . They are pretty fun for where I ride because i mostly ride slate dumps.

There is an 04 yfz 450 near me though with elka shocks and houser +2 a arms I may go check out.

Oh, if I knew you rode there, I would say banshee all the way.

I ride coalmines constantly, that's my main riding area. I love my banshee there. Hated it with stock suspension, but with my aftermarket setup, the mines are a blast.

And when looking at the YFZ, ask if it's ever had the oiling mod done.

would the banshee be good for harescrambles? and is the oiling mod that hiding screen that protects the oilpump

Well, harescrambles are a mix of high-speed field sections and woods. I would say it wouldn't be that bad if you're a good rider. (Motor might tire you out a little)
Hell, im gonna be running mine in them. haha.

And I believe the oiling mod involves making a new passage or something. Nmotion does it for like 60 bucks.

age doesnt mean a thing. riding is about fun, dont matter what you are on. and honestly, an old two stroke will last alot longer than a new 4 stroke. the engines are so simple to rebuild. take two hours once a season and toss a piston in it and you are ready to go. four strokes take so much more time, money and maintenance it is ridiculous. i think you will regret having two 450's to work on. also, in my opinion, a 2 stroke is so much more fun to ride. the power is snappy, the bike feels lighter and handles better. i much prefer a two stroke bike. hell, if you had it up there in the poll, i'd say buy a 250R and a yz250. that would be the best lol

KRT, Couldn't have said it any better myself.

Most people assume since I ride a 2-stroke I automatically am anti-4-stroke. Not the case. Modern 4-strokes are awesome.

But nothing replaces riding a 2-stroke for me:cool:

i'm actually considering selling the ktm for a yz250. i miss my kx, but want a little more power than the 125 had. nothing can put a bigger smile on your face than snapping into the powerband, shifting gears and listening to those revs barely drop.

You would have lots of extra cash too. Port that YZ250 and do some other mild work.

I love that feeling. The motor feels dead, and in the snap of a finger, just kicks to life spitting dirt all over and revving to the moon.

I'm still looking for a cheap 450 roller to put my banshee motor in:p
