That's exactly how my blaster acted when it was having electrical issues

I had this problem only when i was riding at the dunes... when in the dirt it was fine. ended up being the connections to the coil were a little loose and when on the sand at 3/4 throttle or more in 4-5 gear it would cut out. drove me nuts for two trips to the dunes. something simple but drove me crazy...

Coil and cap are brand new OEM from Honda..this is making me crazy n I don't think my CR ignition is going to be in bybthe time I leave?

there is a remote possibilty they it simply needed to have its throat cleared. it started sounding better each and every time you revved on it. you could try ripping through the gears for a spell and see what that does.....

btw: what is your plug gapped at?

Its a br9eix so I never really gapped it

Check the plug gap it may be too wide, I think factory spec is 0.032" and if you are running higher compression and race gas you may need to close it up a bit.

Also check the spark plug cap that it is screwed on the coil wire tightly.

I have always run a heat range hotter plug than you, with no problems, try an 8 heat range if you have any lying around and be sure to check the gap.

welp, just talked to ESR, adapter plate gonna be here tomorrow for my cr250 ignition ^_^. Got my tires today. Hopefully this ignition cures my problems(please!!) Can i still use my stock kill swich and all?

There is a possibility that your running on the lean side. On my 88 I could jump 3-4 jet sizes in the winter from my summer jetting. If the quad has been sitting for awhile the crank seal on the flywheel side can dry out and suck air. I replace the left side seal every spring. How is the idle? Does it idle up and down if so you have an air leak and that will make it run lean also

k so installed my cr ignition today, was pretty simple install. kick it once man, ****in kickback like crazy, that normal? Second kick started right up n purred. Let it warm up then take it for a spin. Doin the same exact thing. What are the symptoms of a lean main jet?Mines currently at 168. I even Tried 160 for **** n gigs. Think this problem is just my carb? Its a 39mm pwk. So i know its not my electrical, had a working trx ignition and now a cr250 ignition with the same problems. Gotta be my carb im thinkin...?

I had an issue the other day where my bike was cutting out on the top end the other day and my spark plug had a yellow color as well. I thought I was lean. Turned out my fuel is the issue and my spark plug was getting glazed. I'm sure you have already changed your plug but it can be a fuel thing as well. At least it would be easy to rule that out by getting some new fuel.

That's a good suggestion. Is your fuel fresh? If not It would be a good idea to try putting in fresh gas.

A bad flywheel can also cause those type of symptoms. It may not be noticable without just trying a new one though.

k so, did fresh 93 octane gas 32:1 mix. still no fix. Looked at my plug. Bad Good? 168 main jet
plug gapped to .028
oh and same problem with two diff ignitions(2 diff flywheels) trx ignition and my new cr250 ignition.
And Ryan ill be givin you a call for sure

is that an iridium plug?

you could have an intake or exhaust gasket leak too. i had that happen, and went through all the expensive redundancies first.

Darthgeese
02-04-2011, 02:36 PM
yes it is iridium. The whole instake has been taken off and replaced with new gaskets twice. when i rebuild the topend n put stock cage with carbon fibers, then recently with carbin fiber mossbargers =/ but i dont see nothing commin out the exhaust mainfold =/

im far from an expert here, but it sounds to me like it a mechanical issue.

whats your compression reading?

does your crank have up and down excessive wear?

I had the same problem before.Changed all the electrical, still was breaking up on the top end.Talked to my local dealer and he advised me that when I put a heavy load on it,that was when it was sucking air, because I could cruse around without a problem. So I ended up changing my head gasket intake/reed gaskets and the flywheel side crank seal.It ended up being either the head gasket or the crank seal, because I changed them at the same time and it ran fine after that.I was running a CR head gasket also.I have never heard of useing a iridium spark plug?Did you try the br9es or8

yeah tried br9es back with my old trx ignition. Then it would be when i gave it gas it was just sputter and stall out
