Looking at trading my 99 400ex for a 2003 400ex w/Four Stroke Tech 440 kit, all work done at FST by Mickey Dunlap

any opinions on this kit?reliable?, should I really go forward with doing this? meeting the guy tomorrow for test rides, I already planned on rebuilding mine with a 416 or 426 before spring, thanx guys

thats the kit i had.

he did it all for about $1500 in 2001.

JE 89mm 12.5:1 piston

valve work

port & polish on flowbench

cam

oil cooler upgrade

other things i cant remember, but it was fast and ran for a long time. sold it and its possible the 2nd owner is still running it. i just always ran 110 octane changed oil often and seemed to need clutches every year.

what is he charging these days?

what is he charging these days? not sure what he's charging for this now, guy says he has all receipts, also has the bigger oil cooler, asked him what he had to run for fuel and he said 93 which didnt make sense, not sure on ratio though either, or when it was even built, I need to find this all out when we talk tomorrow

Yes its real fun to build them yourself ,are you capable thats the question , trial and error is the universal way of learning and screw ups arent cheap. Mickey dunlap at forestroke tech is real good at what he does ,im not trying to dissuade you from building just dont expect the build to go perfect.

Plan was to build mine(416 or 426), just like the way it feels cause I already know it, but time is the biggest issue, I dont have it, work alot and only really ride a hand full of times a year. This would be a whole new quad to me and from what I gather the motor is built right, I'll prolly trade so its done
