400ex carb internal anatomy question

When I was changing the pilot jet in my 400ex carb, I noticed that the stock one is sunk down into the carb body like 5mm. The aftermarket one (45) was flush with the carb body when I installed it. It seems to be several mm longer than the OEM, but the threads all line up and it fits like it's suppose to.

Is this how pilots are suppose to fit in the carb? Or is it possible the dealer sold me the wrong jets?

that jet is fine. the replacement jets are like that. it won't hurt anything and work like it should.
