Whats up KTM guys. Im normally on the 400ex side but this week Im picking up a new leftover '09 450XC. This will be the first one that Ive ever seen/rode/owned so im crazy exited. I got it for 6400 OTD which I think is a good deal. Is there any first priority things I should do when I get it? Thanks.

welcome to the ktm club. your gonna love your new ktm over the 400ex , i had a 2001 400ex all camed and big bored and ended up sellin it and getting a ktm 525xc. id deff do a jet kit and hmf exhaust , you will notice a difference right there . its already got a high performance cam in it , so other than that id say a 540 big bore kit .......

Knock out the spark arrestor thats about half way threw the muffler. Looks like a propeller and its welded in on the edges. Cuts down the flow a ton. Buy a aftermarket one in it place you can take in and out as needed.

Does anyone have a Yoshimura RS-2 on their KTM. Im choosing between that and the motoworks. How do you like these pipes?

I would go with the motoworks.

Thanks guys. I just got home with it about 3 hours ago. I rode it around the street for a couple mins (a foot of snow in the yard) and even at half throttle, it feels like a beast compared to my 440ex. And the overall quality is top notch.

But there is one problem, the MASSIVE bottom end bog. I have heard of many having this problem (factory jetting to lean) so I guess its widespread. What have you guys done to fix it?

There is a guy named Fastranchero at K*MA*VHQ.com who does a fine job of modifying your carb. He gets ride of the bog and sets it up for you with a HRC needle kit. Plus he can bore it too. All for a very nice price. Your looking at approximately $130 or so to get it tuned right and then another $130 if you want it bored.

Because we can't mention other sites. it might be a "KTM ATV" site.

lol I got the same user name at this site. I have considered his modifications. Did you have them done on your bike?

Today, I pulled the performance ignition wire thing and it almost got rid of that bog. Its still there but 10 times better.

My buddy has it done on his KTM but I havent got to ride it yet. I would install a 45 pilot and take your stock exhaust and knock out the impeller thats welded on the inside if the muffler. The Dynos show very little improvement over a stock pipe if you do this and it will help your bog issue. And they are not lean from the factory they are fat on top and lean on the bottom.

i still havent been able to iron out my jetting. we played with the needle clip(i believe i have it in the 3rd position right now), went with a 45 pilot and a 172 main and i pulled the spark arrestor from the stock exhaust. i feel like the accel pump needs to be adjusted. almost like when you stab the throttle it pours too much fuel into the engine and causes it to bog out. it really baffles me because i've never run into so many issues trying to get a machine jetted properly. other than that and the backfire from the stock exhaust flange leaking, i have no problems with this machine and i love it to death.

krt400ex...Fastranchero did a whole write-up about the stock carbs if you havent read it. Its got some great info.
Im thinkin Yoshi too. My friend has one and I just love the sound of it. My 440 has a Motoworks and I like it too.
