you dont need a whole shim kit you can usually get separate shims from your dealer

thanks a service manual is the most important

a torque wrench, a feeler gauge that goes down to .003, and a set of Allen wrenches, lock tight, sockets

well if he is not racing and just wants some more bottom end then the stage 1 will be fine. But if he likes to go fast and wants to go faster then either a stage 2 cam or an 2004 -2005 HRC cam will be good. i have the HRC in my 2004 450r and i love it. When i bought my quad new it was stock then i had honda put in the HRC and it was a night and day difference. Now i just have to rebuild the dang thing. crank went out on me.....

the lift and duration are real close between the both

however if you have an er I believe the 08 and 09 have a different decompression mechanism!!

and I dont think that you can just do a cam swap...

maybe someone with an 08 or 09 will know better,,,

I do know that one there web site they show different numbers for yours

so u think the stage 2 will be better than a stage 1. yes i did notice diff part numbers and the decomp is diff.
