Did you also change your lower a-arms?

QuadTrix6
02-13-2003, 04:34 PM
the top shock mount on the frame, it has nothing to do with the a arms

02-13-2003, 04:35 PM
Get another pic at a better angle..that pic looks like crap...:ermm:

My elka's had a super tight fit too..I had to really work it in there with some elbow grease..:(

bro THE A ARMS HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH THIS

i think he's thinking that the bottom arms are pushing the shock to be at a bad angle because of the shocks being longer then what the bottom arms are made for. im pretty positive you ordered the right legnth shocks right :D

QuadTrix6
02-13-2003, 04:39 PM
here its the top mount

QuadTrix6
02-13-2003, 04:40 PM
the top pic is of the quad i have it sitting straight up on the grab bar

ok maybe im not explaining myself and i apologize in advance, i am frustrated...this has nothing to do with shock lenght, or a arms it has to do with the top shock mount where it is welded to the frame, the frame mount dips a little and the top of the shock rubs on it and won't let the eyelet line up

So neither end will fit in the gap? And you are obivously putting the top in before you put it in the A-arms. I would see if you can bend it out that little bit before you grind anything.

mine wouldnt fit in the gap. so i had someone sit on that side tire and make it go down more, then they came off so it would go into the slot..i dont know if this is your problem but it was mine

02-13-2003, 05:33 PM
Yeah don't get to frustrated over it...Imagine if there was powdercoat built up in there too like i had to deal with...just take your time..fix the frame for them to mount and you'll get it mounted up..;)

actualy it could have alot to do with the bottom a arms if you put them on backwourds that means the shock mount would be too far back on the a arms witch would cause your problem, So apoligize. ALthough that may not be your problem it could have been!.

try mounting the top part first and hold the bottom part out rather than straight up. this should allow u to get the bolt n. my axis were simliar to this but they would rub only when fully extended.

i'd still grind a bit off.

Yeah, it took me a block of wood and a B.F.H to get my a-arms on after getting my frame powdercoated!

Thanks for all your help. I apologize but i was frustrated. You guys know how it is when u drop a grand into parts and things dont fit. Thanks for all your help. I grinded a bit and got it to line up. Heres a pic on... They sag so much even with the 22" stockers and are really smooth. Cant wait to try them on the track.

QuadTrix6
02-13-2003, 06:09 PM
at least 2 inches, the tires i have on there are 22"s its set up for 19 "s so it will look better and sit better

What exactly did you have to grind? I'm asking because I have the same exact shocks on the way, and will probably get the housers as well. Is it usual to have to do this?

I know this is kind of late, but i too had to grind the shock mount to get my PEP's to mount and i had to do the same thing to my friends EX, i think Honda just put a bit to much metal up there

Hello Guys:

It is possible to put the A-Arms on the worng side of the quad. They look pretty similar and I know of a couple guys that did that. Actually, one of them even got the shock to fit both mounts, and he went out for a practice at a motocross national with that setup. It coudn't have been very good for anything though.

When I ordered my PEPS from Mark Baldwin, he told me that if you go with a zps fronts you CANT re-build your rear, you have to buy a zps rear.. He showed my why, but its been 6 months almost since I ordered them and cant remember all the reasons why.

when u rebuild the rear they make it a ZPS. Also i am getting the rear rebuild. I was on the phone with wayne from PEP for about an hour talking abt the rebuild. You can run a rebuild and he said his rebuild will perform exactly the same as a full new ZPS rear but on his shock every part is replacable where as the Showa shock is not.

the 400ex shock CAN be converted to a zps but the 250r shock can not, pep can rebuild the rear and re valve it but it will not be a zps.

You scared me Quadtrix, I saw the a-arms with Houser on them, and was like , that thing doesnt look ANY wider, and those are the exact arms I got.....LMAO, I saw you said they are stock with Houser stickers afterwards...lol

The rear wont be zps if it's rebuilt? I don't know much about this but our local top racer that also owns a shop and is a PEP dealer has two quads with zps fronts and converted rears and both rears sag just like the front and have the zps spring. Unless there is a lot more to zps than that and I just don't know what I 'm talking about.

02-14-2003, 05:02 PM
the rear rebuild on a 400 will be zps but a 250r will not

OK Cool. Not trying to rag on you I just misunderstood.

I just had my 250r stock rear converted to Elka SSD by the Quadshop. Isn't that the same as ZPS (no preload)???
