View Full Version : Question for those who have a g-force axle

In the process of redoing my carrier bearings I discovered that there is a C-Clip that goes on the sprocket side of the axle that is no good.

The bearings were slightly bad, but I noticed this C-Clip was no good as I put everything somewhat together and still had play in the axle. I tapped the sprocket hub on more and it seemed to cure this-but that ring seems stretched out.

I need another one, Im about to call rocky mtn but just wanted to ask if anyone had ever replaced this or had an idea where to get one.

Thanks.

is it the same as a stocker? subscribed to learn a bit about the g force stuff. steve

I think it is. I dont have an axle to reference it.

The clip seems to be about good 1/8 thick and assuming the g-force axle is the same diameter as the stocker (which it seems to be I think) I can get a similar looking lock clip at bike bandit OEM but not sure if its it. #12 looks kinda like it, course the axle is already assembled as a unit for sale, it shows nothing to buy off it on that sprocket hub. http://www.bikebandit.com/houseofmotorcycles/2000-honda-trx400ex-fourtrax-ex/o/m2657#sch97379

Also, talking with my friend we had an idea: Perhaps this hub is meant to be pressed up against this ring when the axle is fully tightened. Assuming the axle was perhaps not 100% tight Im not exactly sure if it was or was not pressing up against the hub enough.

We shall see, just seems odd that the play I had wasnt so much in the wheels but was on the axle when i checked it all out. Now that the axle is totally out that play was still there, checked that sprocket hub and it was loose.

I dunno.. lol.

is it the clip to hold the brake stay in place?

You and me both. All I know is the hub when smacked up against the ring is loose, smack it away from the ring its tight..so wtf is the ring for then?? lol..

take it out, put it together, and find out :eek2: :eek2: im betting that it would all get tight when it goes together to the proper torque. steve

This is the side with the sprocket hub on it.

@steve:
Doing that tomorrow night with my buddy, had a hell of a time getting the bearings into the carrier itself so I had enough for today..that and its freaking cold in my garage. But Im willing to bet that yea it does tighten up when everything is back together.

ETA:FYI dont buy the bearings from lonestar if you have thier carrier like I do-they are bearing # 6559469 and cost less than 20/ea at rockauto.com I paid ALOT more but such as the way it goes.

live and learn, then get luvs. :p

gotta love getting bent over good though. just about all of the bearings for these things can be found at a auto place, the gaskets are the hard part or them. most of the kits come with everything needed except in your case like the ones from LSR. lol

torque it down, and see how it goes. if anything you will get a bit better at getting that rear end apart for next time.

Yea, not sure where I would even get the dust seal. Im sure LSR orders there stuff from somewhere. What you get with there kitis the seals, bearings and the tube (why the tube IDK).

Found the seals on ebay, believe they will work on all 400ex regardless since just the bearings are thicker on the dual row.

You need seal 52 x 62 x 08 double lip (inner diameter x outer diameter x thickness)

More interesting info- the double wide bearings are a 84-86 C4 corvette AC compressor bearing. bearing number 6559469

Bearing is also the same for a 99 k2500 (old style frontend) chevy 350 v8.

So it tightened it up no issues. Just bothered me that it was loose and I thought I did the bearings for nothing.

steve- you have possibly inspired my new signature :D  . CJM- FWIW, when my axle is out i have the same issue. everything tightens up when it's all put together though..

I just wasnt sure Pipeless, seemed odd I had the same looseness when it was all together as when I had it apart.

new bearings took care of it all. im sure the fact the carrier had no grease in it didnt help. I lubed everything imaginable, outter and inner of the carrier, the grease fitting, etc.
