Well I have had a white bros slip on on my 400 for quite a while. This winter, I have noticed that the rings (at the end) and the end of the pipe was turning black from the stuff that comes out of the exhaust.

It's never done this and I'm sure its probably not good. Is the slip on shot or??

that is carbon buildup from the exhaust. there really isnt anything wrong unless your packing has blown out also. just take the plates off and give them a good cleaning to get it flowing a bit better again. the more buildup you get on them the more it will restrict flow, which will increase the problem from burning too rich.

its normal..could be running a bit rich but unless you notice and increase in sound than it should be fine.

rich on the main imo if you have black smoke. others would say that it is alright and running fine though with the bigger jets in it. if it runs good leave it.
