Hey Everyone,
I was just wondering what is the best air filter to protect my 2010 yfzx. I ran all last year on my 08 YFZ a K and N filter with prescreen, then the K and N lid with a prescreen and loved it, but now I see k and n doesn’t make a lid for my x and I was nervous that the one paper filter will just let to much go through my engine. I was looking at twin air, the gytr foam, pro design, and uni but I have no idea which is better, I was thinking foam to catch more, so if I cant run a lid maybe it was the best way 2 go. I race cross country all the time so I really need it to be protected running in that dust.

So these are my questions
Does anyone make an air box lid for the x?
Which foam filter is the best? (twin air, the gytr foam, pro design, and uni)

Not quite the same as a K&N lid, but you could run one of these: http://www.ehsracing.com/products/yfz450r_airbox_EHS.htm

I ran a K&N brand filter and will never run one again. I oiled it as directed, tried 2 or 3 times thinking I was doing it wrong, but no. The filters just suck. I pulled my filter off and there was dirt caked on the oil ring I had put inside the intake tube to see if dirt was getting through. I ended up re building me top end just to be safe. I know run a Fuel Customs with there K&N style filter. Regular K&N is 4 ply, Fuel Customs is 6 ply. That little thicker filter makes all the difference. Nothing gets in anymore and I run with no lid and the back half of my airbox chopped.

I mostly ride dunes as well, and when it's hot the sand is super fine and I still have no trouble.

If Fuel Customs doesn't make one for the X I would run a foam filter, or a K&N with a foam wrap possibly.

IMO anything but that kand n with wrk fine. Foam is the way to go i think, but i have heard good things bout the fci filters. If your lookin for power and protection i hear the sparks foam flows the most air. IDK though that is just what i hear

i have to agree foam is the way to go i run the mod quad intake setup on my 450x and i believe they use a prodesign filter

imo-the best overall filter is a uni fom filter
with a pc racing filter skin both oiled with pj1 red spraycan oil
second best would be any quality foam style filter
with the pc racing filter skin oiled with a quality filter oil
i have run uni's for 20 years now with a pc filter skin
and never had any issues

k and n sucks. Go with a Uni dual stage on a GYTR intake flange. Use maxima spray on air filter oil.

NO WAY in HELL would i use a pro design. I had one on for a dusty race and we took it out to clean it, there was dust on the intake.

We have always used NO-TOIL, and NEVER had any dust or anything get past them. I would never recommend anything other than No-Toil.

It amazes me the things people do with air filters. 20,000 quad, and they use the simplest and dirtiest filters they can find. Just blows my mind. :huh
