I'm going to be drag racing 300ft drags and wandering which hot cam will benefit me the most. I'm getting a stock wiseco 11:1 high compression piston, port and polish, 450r carb, bumping the rear sprocket up one tooth, and I already have a FMF header with the titanium 4 that I'm thinking of replacing with a HMF. I also have the k@n lid and outerwears prefilter. Which cam would give me the most gains?

Stage 1 works best with a stock motor..stage 2 for a built motor. My brother has an 11:1 426 with a stage 2 hotcam and it hauls.

For drags I would stick wit the stage 2. This cam is made for more power at the top end.

Deleted my post. Don't know if I totally missed the drag racing part, or you edited the post lol.

Go with the stage 2 for sure then. The stage 1 might hold your motor back a little up top.

Yeah but I won't be boring anything. and If I got a stage 2, I hear you have to replace some parts?

You dont have to replace the rockers or anything on any hotcam. Straight off the website..

So I can take the stock cam off and put a stage 2 hot cam on and go?

yep it is what is called a drop in cam so no other work needed. i would just remind u to remove the decomp and spring that are in a hole in the head. u will not need it anymore with a hot cam because they have no decomp lob like the stock cam

Ok awsome but would it hurt it if I kept them in there?

well if u leave it in there i think it could come out and its never good to have small metal parts rolling around the inside of ur engine. it's really easy just grap it with some needle nose and pull

Ok thanks man I appreciate it. One last thing, with the stage 2 can, could i still just rise and cruise in open fields?

Still think I should get stage 2 if I bump the rear sprocket 1 tooth up?

If you go up 1 tooth it will give you more speed-you want more top end. Thus you want the stage 2 cam.

1 tooth up would give me top end? And I been hearin the stage 1 is a good all around cam.

Well im not sure which sprocket you were talking about, what is "ryegrass" I think you mistyped something.

Heres some good info:
* A SMALLER than stock FRONT sprocket will give you more TORQUE.
* A LARGER than stock FRONT sprocket will give you more SPEED.
* A SMALLER than stock REAR sprocket will give you more SPEED.
* A LARGER than stock REAR sprocket will give you more TORQUE.
* By changing 1 tooth on the FRONT sprocket, that is about equivalent
to changing the REAR sprocket 3 teeth.

I used a 16t front and trust me the sucker gained at least 5mph faster, i went down to a 14t front and i maxed out 1st and 2nd to much cause of the stage 2 cam.

Its your choice in the end, but the stage 2 cam will really help in drags and going fast with the right gearing.

Ok I edited my one post. But keep in mind I don't need a whole lot if speed because it's only 300ft drags. I mostly need a good mid end. And I didn't really want to mess with the gearing any.

for drag racing you want a good top end not mid.

Alright thanks. I'll probably get stage 2 but I hope its better than the stage 1.

This won't sacrifice any low end would it?

Not really. What the cam does is change the powerband (where you make the most power). A stage 1 has good gains all around but the top tends to leave a bit to be desired, stage 2 is more all around with excellent gains midrange and higher.

Think of it like this: how often are you going slow? I know even on the tight trails Im flying, I almost never putt around. Your not gonna be in that low rpm range-specially if your dragging.

Haha yeah I never putt around unless I'm imitating a 450 ;P. but yeah I mostly do open field riding and like doing wheelies and all that. I do some dragging too abit. I think I made up my mind that I'll get a stage 2.

Worst case is if you dont like it, sell it and buy a stage 1 or something else.

With hearing the other types of riding you do I definitely think you made the right choice with the stage 2 :macho

Yeah haha. I can't wait to get it and put it on!
