Could someone look on the bottom side of the front sprocket and tell me if the case saver touches the chain, right where it sticks out on the bottom? I think mine might be bent and hitting the chain causing it to make an anoying noise. Or i might have a more serious problem but it is driving me crazy. It is not the valves.

The case saver should NOT touch the chain,,,sounds like your chains loose..

The chain is tight. I thought maybe it was on wrong so i took it apart but its the only way it goes on. I think maybe it got bent or something. But the weird thing is it started doing it after i had it apart and put on new sprockets and chain. They are the stock sizes.

I think your chain is just a POS. Seriously. It might be worn out.

Its a RK X ring with not even a tank of gas of riding on it. If i fliped the sprocket then It wouldn't make a difference, it would still touch. I wish i had a picture its hard to explain

check for bent case saver bolts and file out the area touching

Out of curiosity does this contact occur when you are sitting on the bike and the suspension is loaded? I believe when the rear suspension is unloaded there is some minor contact. The best route would probably be to buy a nice aftermarket case saver. The stock piece is supposed to be a real hazard in chain break situations as the portion that covers the sprocket (the cage) gets the chain wrapped up in it and causes all kinds of other breakage.

I think i am going to get a red nacs case saver. I think it will go well with my red parking break block off. My friend needed to replace his raptors front sprocket and i couldn't believe they do not even have one stock.

I've got a Duncan Racing Case saver, it was like 20 or so i think. I would much rather spend the money on a case Saver than on a new case..........Mega$!!!

Do you ditch the stock cover when you put on an aftermarket case saver?

12-18-2001, 02:20 PM

couse mines cracked- been that way for about a month now
i noticed it one day while cleaning the gunk from the motor
but it doesn't shoot oil out anywhere....it's a crack about
2 inches long the zigs zags around a bit- but it's not an open crack- i couldn't slip a piece of papper through it -

why the hell didn't honda put a case saver on the bike in the first place....

well the 400's ship with case savers but I don't think it would do much saving,,it's made out of poop I think..invest in a aftermarket one,,but I don't know if they make them for 300ex's.

get a prodesign, not sure if they make one for a 300ex but the 400 ones seem bullet proof

You will need to take a bolt out of the side case with the black rubber peice on it and relocate it so it will hold the wire in place..
