On ebay right now there is a 87 and a 88 that are very nice, I bid $3500 on the 88' and was high bidder for 24hrs, lol, it's at $5000 with 2 days left.... The 87' is only at $2025 it looks pretty clean, there's also alot trikes right now for some reason

Those are stock quads^^^^^

I would give $4000 for one in that condition. It is really great looking. Not alot of wear. He could probably get $10,000.00 don't you think? Rare is rare.

I sent him an e-mail and he said he'd like to get $3750!!!!!!

I'd get killed if I bought it! LOL

I don't think it's worth $10k. Heck, I don't even think it's worth $3500.

It hasn't been abused, but it's nowhere near "mint" condition. Collectors that are willing to pay good money for something in "nice" but not "mint" condition are almost as rare as the items themselves.

Thanks guys. Going to keep it original. Just adding skid plates and maybe nerfs. It's shipping out from Ca today. I should have it in a few days. I'll repost upon it's arrival.

Yeah, I think I got a pretty good deal on it. 100% stock. I'll know more about it when it gets here. Getting shipped from CA to NY. The 88 that was on eBay at the same time as this one was went for 5 grand! That's more than double what I paid for the 87. Is the 88 that much better than an 87? I thought all years of the 250R's were pretty similar.

We used Yellow Freight(YRC). I'm not sure of exactly what Yellow charged to ship it cross country. The seller charged me $350 for shipping and that included him building the pallet to ship it on. I checked out some of the other shipping companies and $350 was alot cheaper than the other quotes I got. Hopefully it arrives undamaged from shipping. I'll know later this week. The anticipation is killing me.

OK guys, I picked up my 250R today. Man, this thing is nice. Low hour, gently ridden machine. It's been in storage since 1991. It's completely original, from the grips down to the tires. All fluids are getting changed, chain replaced and tires replaced. Getting the full checkup before I ride it. I'm looking into tires but don't know which ones to get. It's probably never gonna see a MX track so I'm thinking more of a trail tire. maybe 6 ply. I've heard good things about the Holeshots and razrs, and I also looked into the Dunlops. Any tire suggetions? I'm planning on keeping it mostly stock but I was told a pipe would REALLY let the motor breathe the way it's supposed to. Any pipe suggestions? Sorry if these questions have been answered a million times here already but I'm new to the 250r and the board, so any advice is much appreciated.

wow, nice buy!

6 ply razr's are great trail tires, and a ct midrange pipe would work just fine, sparks mx(hard to find) or a paul turner 89 race pipe would do the job also.

esr mid range is a decent pipe its better than the fmf fatty or lrd that i have on mine but could just be the nacs porting

The 88 has a shorter wheel base. Yes they are all similar. I would feel pretty lucky if I was you. That is a nice score. I would not say the 88 is worth more than the 87. There were fewer made each year produced. Welcome to our club!

Thanks for the welcome, I've read a ton on this forum in the last week or so and gained a ton of knowledge from you guys. There is so much info here it's amazing.
I think I'm going to leave it stock and just enjoy it the way it is. It needs tires because they are rock hard. After considering where and how I'm going to ride it, I think I'm going to go with something with a little less bite than the Holeshots. I want to be able to whip around those rear tires with less effort than the Holeshots seem to allow. I looked at some Dunlop's but still don't know which ones to get.

Whatever you do just dont ruin your plastics. if you plan to ride it like its meant to be than get other plastics, take off all the hard to find oem parts and shelf em. Get a case saver also. I got an '89 and there's no way in hell i'll ride her how she sits, original R's are priceless!!!!!
