Well a Dual rate shock has two differant springs on the shock. Where a triple rate has three. The reason for this is one is a softer spring(Tender Spring and usually the top spring) It is used for absorbing the small bumps. A triple rate has two top springs, and most of the time the top spring just compresses with the weight of the quad and rider. This setup helpts to keep the center of gravity lower.

What if you have a dual rate ZPS? Would this still be good for XC?

yea a zero perload dual rate shock would work well for xc. you dont see to many triple rate shocks used in xc. triple rates are more used for mx. if i m wrong on this please correct me

triple rates are great for both xc and mx. ZPS takes alot of the bumps outta the ride putting u in more control.
