Depends on whats done to it.
Something is only worth as much as someone wants to pay haha.

i understand everyones theory i can buy the complete quads running for around $900 but i have been looking on flea bay and even early 99 -04 motors stock are going for 700-850 and up and 05 up depending on condition are from $1000-1500 and thats for stock motors

Just remember you can only get what some one wants to pay, and if they can but a whole quad for $1000 there not going to buy the motor for $800 sorry it just aint gonna happen

I had a hard time selling my crf450r motor that had 20hrs on it for well i was asking 800 for it the carb and wiring ended up getting 500 for just the motor and wiring and 100 for the carb.
And that was a newer bike motor so not sure about it but ya i have bought 400s all day long for 1200 and even one for 500 that needed just top end.

Do people with the 400s like bored and stroked motors or do they look at them like they are the plague? I traded for this one two years ago and it just sits in my garage. It has fresh hone and a new coated piston, rings and gaskets.

Gotta find the right person. If you hold out for say 800 then eventually you may get it. If you dont mind sitting on it even longer you will eventually get your price or close to it, you want a quick sale you make a deal.

I would put it on ebay first, you have more exposure and a better chance of getting your price due to people out bidding each other.

you can get around $600 usually pretty easy if your motor is clean, doesnt smoke, shifts good and no slipping clutch... now if you had reverse like my 2005 bottom end you could get a couple hundred more... it all depends on the condition and if its stock or not...
