A-arm width question

I am confuzzed??? When I get my +2+1 a-arms how much width will they add total? Will they add 4 inches or just 2 inches? I does the +2 mean that each a-arm is two inches longer than stock, or does it mean that both arms together add up to be +2 wider than stock? I thought I had this straight, but read something that made me think about it more. I know that the +1 moves them both forward 1 inch but I am unsure on the width.
