okay i am trying to build up my 400 ex i got new carrier 450r shocks some alba nerfs and some other odds and ends i was wondering if air shrouds make a big differance or just look mean .....also woullike to know bout tire width and what u guys run i do alot of woods ridding .....if u guys could help me just let me know i am new to this i would also like to do some engine mods in future......thanx

supposedly the air shrouds will drop engine temp by 6 degrees, not sure if i believe that or not, i have them tho, mostly a cosmetic upgrade if anything

You know if the air shrouds will fit on a 08? And are they just 450r shrouds?

Air shrouds may drop the temps, I personally like the spal fan instead (see most popular 400ex thread for info).

Woods riding depending on the trails can be tight, best to stick to as close to stock width as possible. However if your careful and the trails are wide enough you can get away with +2 width a-arms and axle. My axle is a adjustable currently set to +2 and i fit fine on some tight trails.

As for engine mods, cheapest and easiest is the sparks key which raises your timing 6 degrees but you cannot then add a higher compression piston without using at least 100 octane.

Most rewarding in terms of motor mods is to do what my sig says. Bore to 416 or 426, exhaust, hotcam, higher compression piston, etc. My EX kills stockers and hangs with 450rs all day with ease.

Looks like you got good rear tires if there 4-ply or more as for shrouds they can only do more cooling than not having them .Put some 4-ply and up front tires cause if you ride hard those stocks will get ripped open !

From what I hear, the shrouds really help with big bore kits. I have them and have not put them on yet. They look cool. But I get a lot of heat when its idling long. So the shrouds then are not doing ****.

Change the front tires and you will instantly notice the difference in the turns.
I run razII's on the front and man what a difference from stock!

thanks for the help guys i just bought some 20 inch razr rears i had 22s they were ballons a parking brakeblock off and some other odds and ends i will post pics when i get my 450r shocks on and my new tires

+1 a-arms,gforce adjustable racing axle,and get your shocks revalved and youll be set!plus your bars look kinda ****ty so i suggest some protaper se's or renthal or tag.and a front bumper wouldnt hurt.i like the prm summit for the 450 for woods riding..if im correct 450 bumpers will fit on a 400.

If it was my bike i would put a new bumper on it, good 6 ply tires(such as maxxis razrs), full skids for woods riding, get those 450r shocks revalved and at least get your stock rear shock revalved and get a linkage. I run +2 with 4:1 offset to put me right about 46.5". Some beadlocks are always nice i prefer hipers, in my opion those bars look ****ty, get some "fat" bars, and get a new pipe
