250x engine swaps

theres an old beat up 250x that a kid i know has that i could possibly get for around 300 bucks.... now all i do is trail ride but everyone around here has 400ex's.... so i was thinking in order to beat the 400's then i need a new motor b/c i dont want to lose reliability and do to much work on an old 250..... but i was looking at 350x's and the only way to get a motor is to buy the whole dang 3-wheeler, and thats like 1500 bucks..... so are there any other alternatives i could look into.... i mean are there engines i could buy that will last me..... or is a 350x my only choice.... (only 4-stroke)..... ohh and this might be a dumb question but can u get like a raw 400ex motor straight from factory??... .... one more, say i do buy a 350x.... how much do u think i can get when i sell the chassis..(everything but motor of course)?????

service honda sells new 400ex motors for 2g's. East coast atv sells brand new 350x motors for around 1500. I think i would find a used 350x in decent shape because you need the exhaust and cdi box and stuff for the 250x/350x conversion. just my $.02

wow, thats expensive... so im getting the impression from that post that you recomend the 350x as well?.... cool..... looks like ill find a 350x for cheap when im ready.. unless someone else wants to recomend something... thanks

ok i was thinking today and i was wondering if anybody has bought a 350x trike and a 250x quad and then just switched the engines.... then sold the NOW 250x trike for whatever??..... i think that would be the best way to save money.... what problems would i run into??....

I've seen it done but it was a 350x/300ex conversion. 300ex and 250x are almost the same. I would only expect hooking up reverse to be the problem other than that I guess it's a bolt in kinda job.

Hey has anyone done the 350X conversion on a 250X?I know powroll makes a kit but how hard is it to do without there kit?any step by step help would be good.
