So my Dad has ridden my 400 a few times now and has fallen in love. He is mulling over whether he wants to buy a quad for himself now. So I have taken it upon myself to investigate his options.

Now, he isn't really big into high-speeds type riding, he's more of the occassional trail/putt around kinda rider. He also is only looking at spending $750-1500 range. I automatically figured a 300ex but they are just as expensive as a 400 at around $2000 here.

The 2 biggest options I'm looking at now are a Warrior or selling him my spare 400 and picking up a 250r project for myself. Are there any other decent quads I'm not thinking of? I value your opinions here and so figured I'd ask for them. :D

I think if were me i'd sell him your spare and either get a 250r project or put that money into your ex.

Warriors are not bad and easy to work on. I would say get a 99 or higher they sell for around 1400 here thats what i sold mine for. The only resign i sold mine was because i needed something faster. (My 400ex)

Dad is 5'11'' or so. So the warrior might be a bit small for him as well...I have to do some convincing first but hopefully he will go for my 400. There is a guy selling a basket case 88' 250r, full powdercoat etc but he lost his job so can't finish it now. Would need a new piston/crank but other than that everything else seems to be in excellent shape.

I'm 5'6", and a 300ex feels tiny to me. Atleast get something the size of a 400ex or bigger.

I just picked up a 97 warrior. If he is not going to jump and doesnt mind the ocassional flip, go with a warrior.

i wouldnt go for a warrior. i do not like the 2 valve heads on the warrior. they are slow and a decently modded 300ex will hang in there right with a warrior. id say 400ex over either one of the 3.

i have had 2 400ex's, 4 300ex's and 2 warriors and out of them all warrior was best for trails weighs 400+lbs, 300ex is a good quad for woods or messing around on in the yard and they are cheap picked mine up for $140 lol, and the 400ex is not comparable by any of these unless you get a 300ex and convert the front end to 400ex like i did (best mod) it depends what he likes too do, its all his riding style i prefer 400ex for how light it is, power and how it handles... you can pick one up for about $1600 where im at...

warriors might be solid, but they ride like crap in the trails, they're a rough ride and bottom out easy.

i'm not saying my EX is much better but a stock ex is also a rough ride in the woods.

i'd say get the warrior if you want to save some money and he doesn't care about speed or flipping like the other guy said.

otherwise, get this man a 400ex and he'll join the addiction.

The Honda is the way to go but the warrior is gonna be cheaper i would aSSume. For putzin around there fine. Like i said before. DONT TRY AND JUMP A WARRIOR UNLESS YOU LIKE BROKEN COLLAR BONES AND ****. Just my experience.

yeap warrior is rough but it sticks to the trails and yes they flip easy my dad learned that the hard way... and they are more expensive than 300ex's at least they are over here i sell alot of bikes and i realized the warrior is pricy sold mine for $1800 and a built 300ex for only $1300 get him a ex if he likes a softer ride... what is his riding style

The warrior is probably out then if it has a tendency to tip easily. He is more of a calm, leisurely ride around guy. I really don't see him jumping or racing anyone. I would honestly be looking into more of a utility quad for him but ironically he complains that they are too heavy and bulky. Most of the time he will probably be on trails. He will make the occassional trip to the dunes but also won't be doing much in the ways of hill climbs etc. Realistically I think the 400ex is the best thing out there for him. It doesn't seem like there are many other quads for cheaper that seem to fit the bill...
