Sounds like a jetting issue, too large on the main.

What does it do once you've rode it awhile & have it good & warmed up.

What kind of riding style do you have & how long you been riding atvs.

HAVE RODE DIRT BIKES AND ATC , ATV SINCE 12 , I AM 40 , I TAKE THE BIKE TO DUNES , TRAILS , THE BIKE NEVER CLEANS OUTIN FIRST , SECOND , I TOOK IT OUT LAST MONTH AND ROAD ALL DAY , IT WOULD NEVER SCREAM IN 1,2 , BUT HIT 3 IT WILL RIP, I HAVE HAD TRY-Z AND 250 R ATC THAT WOULD GET IT , LET ME TAKE CARB APART AND SEE WHAT JETS ARE IN IT. LAST TIME OUT IT FOULED PLUG , I DROPPED THE NEEDLE FROM MIDDLE TO ONE ABOVE AND IT SEEMED TO HELP.

Ok, that answers that.
What I was thinking, it could be jetted a bit rich & then idleing it to long warming up or to much slow riding right to start with & the engine loads up.
Check the compression & then jet according to that. If compressions a bit low & jets are rich, could be jets are richer than the compression can burn.

What carb you got, ol PJ or PWK ??. Does it have idle adjustment in the choke knob.

First off really nice deuce! Secondly i just fixed a similar issue on my 310 with 40.5mm carb by lowering the needle clip, then came to find out coolant was seeping past the o-ring into the cylinder. So your compression may read a bit low. Seal that bad boy up and give her a spin.

I have the ESR 310 kit and I believe my head bolts were under torqued when I put it together.

An o ring sealed head, if surfaces & grooves are machined right, should seal @ 18 ft lbs, but the 8mm studs can go to 21 ft lbs.
