Ive been hearing that 2nd gear on 250r's sometimes blows out of the case. Has this happened to anyone? Im debating wheather or not to split the cases and replace that gear just to be safe.

i've never heard that. my trans had stock gears from 86 in it and the gears were still in good condition. the dogbones were a little wore out so i replaced the whole transmission.

2nd gears went bad in the 250x's. If thats what you've been hearing.

Two of my friends R's did it. There was no sign that they where gonna let go, it just happened.

I don't know about the blowing out of the case part (it can happen but not normally), but 2nd gear is almost always the first to wear out and fail. Like airheadduner said, it usually just happens with no advance notice.

I HAD THIS HAPPEN TO ME LAST SUMMER. I HAVE SEEN IT HAPPEN ALOT AT THE GNCC RACES. IT COST ME $1000.00 TO GET IT FIXED.

I have a nice crack in my clutch cover from where a gear let go. The previous owner was nice enough to JB weld it up it seems. LOL. I am redoing my tranny and had to replace 1st, 3rd, 4th and 5th. Guess second is still good. :rolleyes:

I have never had any problems with my R's , however I did split 2nd gear right down the middle on my 400ex..
