ok since i heard about the new youth 14-15 year old class it has got me thinking...i wanted to know you need to have a production bike it can be 91-200cc two stroke and 91-300cc four stroke so its either a blaster or 300EX. don't jump on my back about yamaha but i wanna know what would you want if you were 14 and wanted to race (and win) ok i just wanted to get a 2nd on the 300 before i acted. later

:huh Um.... Well not quite sure what your asking but I'll throw something out and maybe it'll help.

Mojave's are 250's right? and you can have up to 300cc's in a 4-stroke right? Well, I think I've heard somewhere that Mojave bored out to a 300 w/ some more mods (higher comp, pipe, filter, jets) is pretty dang fast (faster than a blaster and 300ex anyways). So if you have the money, why don't you look into getting a Mojave, getting it bored to a 300 w/ high comp piston, pipe, filter, no airbox cover, a-arms, axle, shocks, wheels, tires, handle bars, shave the fenders, lose the lights, get aluminum bumper and grab bar, and lose anything else that isn't necessary for MX, and I think you would have a pretty good ride for that class. Ofcourse if you are allowed to use bike motors, go w/ a 250R and see if you can fit a YZF250 motor in it, and mod it a bit. That would be an even stronger motor.

If any of my suggetions for the mojave are wrong or something, sorry... I've never really paid much attention to them so I really don't know much about them and what they come w/ or don't come with.

Its kind of a toss up. The blaster motor would probably be stronger and the price would be cheaper but you would have to sink some money in the suspension to be up to par. The 300 would have the better chassis. Most people opinion is you win better with a better handling quad then a faster quad. In that case I would say the 300. I don't think the dirt bike engine idea will work in that class cause I believe it has tto be an aircooled engine. Some of the top riders in that class put blaster engines in 250r or other better handling chassis. Heres a couple of pics.

Oh ok, I wasn't aware of the aircooled rule. I guess that just makes everything I said before, pointless, haha.... oh well.

Ya, I would go w/ the 300ex then. It's a better handling quad, and would fit most 14-15 y/o better than a blaster. Handling IS key.

The Blaster motor in a 250R frame seems like a good idea because if you have an aftermarket frame, you could drop a CRF or YZF motor into it when you or whoever is riding it turns 16.

a blaster man , they are cheap , mods are cheap , they can be built up pretty good.

If you would read the rule again it says production model in the 14-15 class. That means No M/C engines. And, stock frame and cases. What East Coast built for the other class was a very good fast quad.

tom, so are there two classes, a 14/15 year 200/300cc and an aircooled class?

02-13-2003, 07:22 AM
The blaster motor will need alot more attentin and regular maint compared to the 300ex..keep that in mind..

what im doing is taking 1 year (3 weeks till im 15) and building my dream quad (in sig) and just getting GOOD on my 300. then when i gt the 250cr done, i will be 16, be able to race in anything, have a bad***** quad, and have the skills it takes to get to the top (hopefully).

Yes, they are 2 different classes. And, because it is a production class, you can only go to the class limit. What that means is if you have a Blaster you can't bore past 200cc in the production class, but in the Air-cooled class you can go .080 over the class limit. From the info that I have the 14-15 class will be an exhibition at the GNC races this year to see if the turn out is large. There must be 5 or more riders to race that class for the weekend.

If you want to race a 250ex you could but don't waist your time expect for the fun. Make sure that you ride to the side at the MX races so that you can be passed saftly on the jumps. The 250ex is a sport modelnot an MX racer.

if you do race your 250EX it will cost alot of money even keep up.
1. its to narrow for MX
2.to short whelbased for mX
3.not enought power to keep up wit 300EX,Blaster,mojaves
4.not enought suspention travel

P.S. It would take lots of $$$$$$$$$ to do it if you wanted to win!

wow. i didn't know this would bring up so much attention. i'll have my 250 for 2 racing seasons so i'm going to dump the money into it. i'm thinking about getting Works dual rate for 300. look in my sig. i might be able to keep up with them. it all depends on the rider.
