I have a dremel that goes dead all the time it's a 10.8 volt. Think it would be ok to run it off a 12 volt car battery or would the motor burn out?

you would probably fry it, you need a new battery.

I agree it may run for awhile but probably gonna end up burning up for sure haha.

I remember back when i was 16 I took a 12 volt fan and hooked it up to the house 120 volts. Spun so fast for a sec then blew a nice little flame out of it and that was the end.
haha and back when i was 14 a battery was dead so i hooked 120 volts up to the chassis because didn't know what spot they needed to go to. 12 volts vs 120 the elec went into the chassis and some how into the starter and started up so fast. :macho

By running that on 12 volts won't probably ruin it as it may cause it run a little faster and get a little warmer. That dremel should be able to handle the extra voltage. My 5 yr old son has a 6 volt electric four wheeler that was given to me and I hooked up an 18 volt cordless battery and that thing will flat out scream. He can spin cookies with it in the drive way, funny as hell.:D

haha.

I was thinking that's what would happen to cause its less than a volt and half more

If it has variable speed switch it's probably just a rheostat, varrying the voltage to the appropriate speed. More than likely it'll run on 12 volts and you'll lose the lowest speed and gain some RPM's on the top of the range. Have a manual with a wiring diagram? How about a volt meter to check voltage to the motor at various speed settings?

Why not just buy a new dremel or batteries?:huh
