The Buell is great. If you want a bike with great handling, there the way to go. Plus with that V-twin, they've got a lot of low-end torque.

But there defiantly not the kind of bike if all you want to do is speed down the highway... there made to be ridden in the curveys

All my bikes 05 Harley Road King dressed as a ultra, 97 Buell M2 Cyclone, 98 CBR 900RR

I have sold both the sport bikes and now just have the Harley

I loved that Buell, 2 summers ago we went to the dragon in deals gap and that bike ripped around those corners

Hidden behind that fairing is a heck of a stereo, 4-300w 6" phantom speakers and a 450w head unit, it blows any factory Harley system out of the water! I get tons of compliments on that!

Performance Machine wheels wrapped in Michelins with matching rotors and drive pulleys, chrome front end, 2 into 1 Vance and Hines, stage 1 download, andrews cams
Just bought the extended hard bags and waiting for paint on them with some ghost willy g skulls in them, theres over 30 willy g skulls on it now
Hoping to do a big bore in the near future, thinkin a 103-110 not sure yet

i'm wanting slicks for the street but was wondering if you know how long a decent set will last. no burnouts or hard acceleration. any info would be cool.

Honestly not a smart idea, there will be no benefit of running slicks on the street. First you will never get enough heat in them riding on the street for them to become sticky and get the traction you would on the track. Second you will kill the tire in heat cycles and after a while it will become very hard and actually lack traction. If you got 1k miles of street riding out of slick that would be good before it felt like you were riding on ice. Not to mention if you ever get caught in the rain it would down right suck.

Look at a set of Bridgestone 003RS, they will give you great grip and are quick to heat up and won't get hard from heat cycling. You should be able to get 3k-4k out of a rear depending on your riding style and suspension setup. There will be no way to over ride the traction limits of this tire on the street.

what would you think a good size is for the track? 180/50/17? 190/55/17? 07 zx10r.

is it better/cheaper to buy a bike with bad engine and replace it with a used one of the same model?

buck440
01-21-2011, 04:02 PM
you can get say a 07 gsxr1000 used motor for $1500 and a bike with bad/no motor for $2000-$3000 but you still have to ship the motor and put it in or pay someone to put it in. you can get most 06 and 07 bikes for $4000-$5000 with low to medium miles in good shape. newer is not always better. a lot of the bikes from 08+are ugly, detuned, more controlled by computers such as abs which one more expensive thing to go wrong and traction control which i personaly dont want because it another expensive fix if it goes bad plus it adds weight. a lot of the newer bikes have less hp than the previous years too. imo newer bikes are the prius of bikes. why pay $12000 when a $4000 bike can do better? little off subject lol:)

Pretty sure everyone has seen me post this before, but I thought I would to add some info to the whole slicks thing. Theyre not for the street. Been there done that. My next bike will be a rocket. I can always borrow dad's harleys when needed for a date or whatever. lol.

I personally don't like a 180 on a liter bike. I run 190/55 on my R1.

As for your slick question he answered it dead on. I used to run Pirelli SuperCorsas on the street and never liked them, and in 2k miles they where gone. I now run Conti Road Attacks, good grip and TONS of mileage. I get around 6k out of each rear.

Now my turds:

The Buell is an 03 race package XB9R. The R1 is an 04 with tons of mods, currently getting some powdercoat work, more carbon fiber, etc. Will have new pics soon enough.

190/55 would be idea for a liter bike, you get the quick turn in of a 55 series but still lots of contact patch with the 190. If your just starting out look into Bridgestone 003's RS, Conti sport attacks, Michelin PP 2CT (not my favorite but a lot of people like them).

No idea why it isn't working? I've linked to that pic 2 or 3 times without trouble.
