Hey guys i'm wanting to get rid of my Kawi 450r and get either a Honda or Yamaha.

I'm wanting to get either 08 or up for Yam an 07 an up for Hon.

Question is which one's the better machine?

since your on the TRX450R forum im sure your only going to get people to say the honda.

Do your own research, browse the forums and see what one suits you and your riding style the best.

That is quite a controversal question. I guess to answer best, what application are you gonna use it for? Are you planning to do a ton of Engine mods for the track? or are you wanting it to be a weekend woods rider?

I race XC and race GP's. I'm moving up to the A-Pro class this year and want to make sure I have a more reliable machine to last me all year.

No motocross strictly woods.

No engine mods except mayby a set of cams.

I'd also have Intake, Full Exhaust an re-jet for my performance mods.

Since you arent planning on doin a ton of mods, IMO, its all about personal preference. I would test them both and see which you like best.

Yeah i'm not doing a ton of performance mods but i will be doing everything else, beadlocks, front end, stabilizer etc.

I've seen the Yamahas have oil issues..that's one problem i don't want to run into lol i think i'm leaning towards Hon...

i am 100 percent honda..but i was upset with the handling of my 08 i just bought. stock to stock i would say that the yfz is more race oriented. The yfz seems to have a lower seat height too. Power wise they are real close to the same. but when a rebuild comes im sure the honda would be cheaper to do. uni cam vs. dual cam. just my .02

In the woods, if you have a big budget, get the Honda. If you're looking to do things as cheap (stock) as possible, get a old style YFZ (07-09) 06s were the ones with the oil issues I believe.

Thanks a ton guys I've heard nothing but reliability from guys that ride Hon..

Don't get me wrong I love my kfx450 an haven't had too many problems with it but I just want something that will take the beating in the cross country series here in Southern Ohio.

Honda seems to be a true take the beating xc machine to me and what i've seen at the track

I don't think i'm going to go with brand new i don't have the cash to buy a new one and then buy all the parts i'm going to throw on it..

I'm probably going to look around and find a used 08 if i can that is already built for the same price as a new one.
