I don't do it, but my doc says it doesn't hurt a thing, except those that don't do it, and are sitting in the room when you do it.

I have a real bad habit of popping my knuckles or "popping my fingers". Therefore, now my neck is F#cked up. I have to crack my neck like every 2 min!

Actually, you're not cracking your fingers.....it's the fluid between your joints. The fluid actually creates many, many tiny air bubbles that " crack" or realistically pop when you pull or crack your fingers. Just thougt I would share. The Dr. is leaving now......

in concjuntion to what sly400ex said it's not bad for you at all. it's just forcing the air out of your joints. i suppose that once you start doing it or your joints have been stressed or separated they will have more of a tendancy to build air bubbles. look at wraslers all their joints always pop heh. i'm a big guy and i played football for 3 years and played basketball constantly when i was younger. i think my knees got messed up cos they pop constantly almost. when i wake up i walk across the floor and my knees crack for a while heh. kinda scarry.

found this
As for the harms associated with this habit, according to Anatomy and Physiology Instructors' Cooperative, only one in-depth study regarding the possible detriments of knuckle popping has been published. This study, done by Raymond Brodeur and published in the Journal of Manipulative and Physiological Therapeutics, examined 300 knuckle crackers for evidence of joint damage. The results revealed no apparent connection between joint cracking and arthritis; however, habitual knuckle poppers did show signs of other types of damage, including soft tissue damage to the joint capsule and a decrease in grip strength. This damage is most likely a result of the rapid, repeated stretching of the ligaments surrounding the joint. A professional baseball pitcher experiences similar, although obviously heightened, effects in the various joints of his pitching arm. But assuming you haven't signed a multimillion dollar contract to constantly pop your knuckles, it hardly seems worth the possible risk to your joints.

02-13-2003, 05:10 AM
after awhile if you keep it up whenever you squish up yuor hands into a fist they'll all make a little bit of a popping noise themselves..

TheChknhwk
02-13-2003, 07:42 AM
The noise is generated by the implosion of synovial fluid within the joint.... cool eh, I heard it on tv:D
