It depends on what the compression of the piston is. Anything over about 12:1 compression would require more than pump gas. If you run race gas on anything under 12:1, you are wasting your money and could actually cause a loss in power.

I am running a JE high comp piston which is 13.5.1 and with that compression you can not run anything under 100 octane or if you do it will cause damage to your motor in the long run. I was running Cam 2 then my local gas station went under . Now I am running 100LL av gas at 4.60 a gallon. I have been running this for 2 years now with no problems.

When I had 14.5:1 compression I ran VP C12. It worked well, but at a price of over $8.00 a gallon, it's too expensive to be riding every weekend. For a cheaper alternative, you may want to check around to your local airport, as PGH suggested. I've never ran aircraft fuel, but there are mixed reviews about it. It was designed to be used on engines that would be ran at a constant RPM, like an airplane. Do a search, and you will find all the info you need.
