I had my frame painted in this piece of **** ppg epoxy gloss black stuff.....omfg im so pissed. the guy also clear coated it to make it stronger.......well i was putting my quad together....... it started CHIPPING OFF ALL OVER ....so i got pissed and scraped it off.....:D well anyways .......this **** is so crappy that your finger nail can make huge marks in it and it will chip right off........so i will be GETTING IT POWDERCOATED. im just looking for the best prices....... a local place does it for 200 but im lookin around.... anyways...... just thought i would show how crappy this stuff is lol.

Looks like your paint guy skipped the entire prep step.
I'd go back to him and at least get the cash back for his lousy labor.
Some paints are durable enough for frames, but You're right...
Go with powdercoat.
That or POR-15.

ya i wasted 75 bucks to have that ******* do it........... oh well
im bringing it to a local place tomorrow to have it powdercoated.
which i should have done origionally........i thought i would save like 150 bucks by havin it painted..... but i guess this was a WASTE. o well.

he said he sand blasted it......... primer , ppg gloss black ****........ clear coat.
i dotn know....it chips off if i lightly scratch it with my finger nail JEEZ.... im so pissed off:mad:
75 bucks down the drain......:(

the dude didn't prep the surface properly epoxy shouldn't flake off like that if the surface isn't cleaned the paint won't adhere to it for example if you touch a surface that is to be painted the oil on your skin will be left in the spot and the paint won't adhere to it properly so if the guy handled you frame before painting and not cleanin it most cases you'll have what is pictured

If it helps I'll post a pic of my black frame..print it out,,take it to the guy hold it up to his face and show him what it's supposed to look at,,,then punch the paper as it's close to face and ask him how it feels ta get jacked over...:mad:

does anyone know if "satin black" powdercoat looks good?...any pics?
this place around here only has satin black right now..for powder.......he said it has a "shine" but who knows.

here is probably what happened
He should have used a hardener in the paint...so it could set up..did he even bake it?? ppg has a lifetime warranty on their paints...it could have been bad paint...
it looks to me like he may have used too much hardener..and that may be why the paint is flaking or chipping...because its still hardening..any automotive paint is gonna be soft for awhile...he should have told you that...

I had the same problem when I painted my frame last winter. Except I used spray paint since I was on a budget. Tell ya what it's held up excellent I can power wash my frame and the paint holds up like you wouldnt believe. At first it was soft and I could scratch it away with my fingernail. I talked to some guys around here that paint cars localy and they told me to bake the paint on. So I let everything sit in front of a salamder heater for about 3 hours at a time on full blast. I let the frame and the paint get so hot i couldnt touch them and then let them cool down. I did this about 3 or 4 times I cant remember exactly. Worked pretty good I thought. If I have money left over I'll get my frame pc'd this spring or early summer.

I was really surprised how well them 18inch trekkers go in the snow:eek2: . I like them alot....
