View Full Version : My Dune/Drag Build

Here is a frame i just picked up. Im going to build another dune bike. Im going more drag on this one than i did my other.

It already has some of the tabs cut off. Especially on the subframe. Note it has no linkage mounts for the rear shock. Im going to run a Marvin Shaw, just dont know what length yet.

It already has a drag stem/handlebar setup. Chris@Deaf Man Chassis done it. I plan on having him do some more work to the frame to try and lighten it up some.

Its just a little project of mine. I dont care if its the fastest or best looking. Its just something i will enjoy doing!

Far as motor i dont have a clue. Im going to get with Tim@Titan Racing and see what he thinks. It nice having someone like him live a few miles down the road. Tim is all about going fast, but my wallet might not agree with him! LOL

The vin tag has been removed! How do you know that the frame or quad at one point or another, was'nt stolen?I've thankfully never had any of my 250R's stolen over the years, because this would make me sick!

The vin tag on 88-89's is built into the frame between the upper shock mounts. It's right where that bracket is bolted to on his.

No worries man. I know how it is to have a bike stolen. Check this out!!

TRUE STORY!!!!

I got tired of my 400EX ,so i decided to go buy a 450. I went and bought a leftover 07 450R. I was like a kid with a new toy when i got it. Two months to the day after i got it, i installed a new exhaust on it. I done it after work and didnt feel like rejetting it that night. It was running like crap with the stock jetting. So i took it home with me and left it on the back of my truck.

Well at about 2am the next morning someone decided they wanted my bike more than me. So they unstrapped it, took it out of the bed of my truck and pushed it down to the end of my road. Then they started it up and rode down the main street to a truck waiting and loaded it up.

Now this is when it gets interesting!!!

After 2 weeks of not having my bike, my old co-worker calls me up out of the blue. Note he has no clue i had bought a new bike cause we hadnt talked in 5-6 months. He knew i like to tinker on atvs. Anyways he calls me and says he has a buddy of his with a 450 that isnt running right. He said it sounded like he was having carb issues because it was popping and cutting out. HMM? Sounds like mine since i never did rejet it. He wanted me to come and look at it and see what i thought. Curiousty got me going so i said yeah what the heck!!

Well i went and got there to the guys house and walked in the garage i knew immediately it was my 450!! I could tell by the tires and NEW Looney Tuned Exhaust! The plastic was painted primer red and they was a shop rag wrapped around the vin#. I told the guy that was my bike!! He said just take it, he was already in enough trouble. I went ahead and took it and waited till we was gone till i called the cops. He is serving 7 years as we speak!

CAN YOU SAY LUCKY!!!!

Sorry for the long story.

hey, excellent build, just read through the last couple pages and seen the huge step up in carb size at the end, is there a reason you want to go so big on carb size, it will feed down the air, but you will loose air velocity on movement through the cylinder. i was taught at a young age and still use the saying "the smaller the faster, the bigger the slower" referring to velocity.

Not trying to be a smartarse, but are you familiar with a Saber setup???

06-07-2012, 11:27 PM
to be honest with you i know slightly about the puma setup, but the saber not so much, just didnt know you would need such a big carb, alot bigger than i thought would be needed, thats why i was asking.
